Little update on Millie
over the last 2-3 weeks i finally managed to get the last piece of the puzzle sorted, the last bit to do on the slide plate with the tow ball, i had got it back from the galvaniser's all done and i bought 2 new slider pins as the original pair had worn a lot Click image to enlarge with the tow ball on Click image to enlarge Then i had to make one of the holes a bit bigger to take the padlock so the slide plate doesn't go walkabout Click image to enlarge then finally where it belongs Click image to enlarge Nice and happy with the outcome I also changed the Indicator, main beam, flash and horn stalk as it was going wrong Click image to enlarge the only problem i had is that you have to take the wiper stalk off to and the little funny washer thing ( sorry i don't know what it's called ) that helps hold it on went flying of never to be seen again so i managed to put this nylock nut on, fitted perfectly and holds it much better than before. Click image to enlarge Then after that was sorted i checked it all out and all is good and working correctly 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper. Clayton. |

So we have another little episode in the life of Millie
This all started around August of this year, i noticed that my original fuel injection pump was slightly leaking in a place that had to be done by the specialists, so it was took of and i put one of my spare ones on for the mean time. I took this pump up to Electro-Diesel in Exeter which is about 45 minutes from my place for them to recondition it and at the same time i asked for there upgrade ( they only do the one upgrade now ) so i waited patiently and then had the phone call to say it was ready, i waited for the right time to go and pic it up and then bought it home Click image to enlarge Once home i made a time to book Millie in to my indy, a fortnight later and it was in, well what a big disappointment when i drove her for the next few days, totally not what i had hoped for, so i rang Electro-Diesel and spoke to the man himself, John and he said that it can't be the pump it had to be something other in the line, sooooooo just to help us to see what's going on, i got a boost gauge fitted, now with the pump and original turbo and actuator/wastegate it should of read at least 1 bar, it was only reading 0.8 bar, so my indy said adjust the wastegate rod, i did and i got 0.9 bar and that was it as i did try it again but had no gain. Back to the drawing board, so i booked her into my indy again and he put a good 2nd hand turbo on and my original turbo was leaking bad and hoped this would cure the problem, it did not, it made it worse as the max i had with this turbo was 0.6 so i rang and spoke to John again, told him what had happened and he was sure that it was not the pump, but he did say that he would have a look at it to make sure that it was all okay and/or he would put it back to standard at no extra cost, so this got me thinking again, so i booked in Millie to my indy to have a " health check " when i went to pick her up the next day he said that the turbo/actuator/wastegate was not working 100% and yet again my Allisport intercooler had another hole in it. Right i thought, ring up Allisport and get another full size intercooler, well i could of if i was prepared to wait up to 8 weeks so after some looking and asking on here i got a full size intercooler from Airtec, black with no logo on it and it was delivered to my indy within 8 days. It only has a 3 year warranty on it though, so time will tell. Booked Millie in again to my indy and he installed it and at the same time he fitted a new standard turbo as well Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge As you can see in the next pic that the top outlet is about 100mm to short so my indy had to put a joiner in it Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge So i picked Millie up on the Saturday just gone hoping that we have sorted this out once and for all, my indy said she goes well now, well driving her for a few days now and my answer is . . . . . . . we have NOT you have to drive it as you stole it, i have nothing until the foot is touching the floor. i had more even power when i had my temporary pump on which was not right My indy says that at the moment i have got 1 bar of boost so i asked a mate to have a go in her to see what he thought, his thoughts are the same as mine which is that she was better before i got the pump upgraded. The next thing on the list to do is to get this pump off and put another different spare pump on in it's place and send it back to Electro-Diesel to see if they can find anything with it and it will give me a chance with the spare pump on to see if there's any difference, O the joys To all who have had this upgrade on there Tdi fuel injection pumps, have you had this problem or did you have a extra even power when accelerating ? 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. I’m no expert but was the pump actually tested to check it is creating the correct spec pressure? If the fuel pump and turbo are the only things that has been touched then they are the likely culprits.
I’d be tending to still think the pump as it was what started the problems off in the first place. Have you considered asking Gary @ Alive? He may have some helpful info. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

They said at Electro-Diesel that everything on the pump is tested before it is released, mine might of slipped through, time will tell and the turbo on Millie now is a new one surely it cant be that
Have not asked Gary as my indy has been doing this since he left school, so i will be reporting back to him at the weekend hopefully 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper. Clayton. |
