Contact West Somerset Land Rovers, in Wellington (01823 674561), and ask Richard Willis about safe methods of tuning. He'll guide you down the right path, and sort you a Forum Discount at the same time! Thumbs Up

Regards,

Gary.

Never heard of them ???

As for the various "tuning boxes",, a crude way of doing it, If you want to upgrade, a full remap of the ecu, is the only way to to it properly

Mine, will more than likely be a Rica remap http://www.rica-uk.com/viewcar.aspx?vehicle=1510 California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Interesting....

Why do people use graphs like that - as it's not off a rolling road... or repeatable unless on a proper engine dyno - and done as per the requirements of VCA or similar.

I.e. how do they get a graph where the vehicle makes exactly what it is supposed to?

122bhp (as standard Defenders should make 121bhp or 122ps) and 360Nm.... a Defender will never get these exact figures on a rolling road. More like 117bhp.....

I've not made many posts on this forum but after reading this topic and the comments about Ian being a 'Pretender' I thought I'd post my experience of Ian's remaps & workmanship. I first had a stage 1 remap for my Td5 Heritage early last year that certainly sorted out the flat spot that I had compared with the plug in box that I'd had that the previous owner had fitted. After a few months I fancied a bit more power as you do so contacted Ian about a stage 2 tune. I traveled from the Isle of Wight to his workshop in Sutton Coldfield on arriving I changed my plan and decided to go for VNT turbo with the stage 2. Ian's workmanship was second to none on fitting the intercooler & new turbo. The new remap was downloaded & we went for a test drive, the difference was (and still is) amazing no lag no flat spots and bags and bags of torque from 1000rpm. Ian knows his stuff and is no 'pretender' if you want a great tune see Ian you won't be disapointed .

Think its just a case of "for illustration purposes only " ?? Ian

While i know for fact ! your remap will give approx 10% lower fuel consumption,, (Near 4000 miles across Spain and Morocco, in 2 identical 110's, one with your tune, and one without, ) California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

True... but nobody ever states that. They are not the only company that does it.

I'd like a VNT turbo at some point in the future.

Just how much does it smooth the torque curve out? Will it have that nice bottom end the Puma's have?

Pete (BAS) remapped my 90, I asked for him to smooth it out as much as he could within the confines of the current turbo. He did a very good job - but however clever the map is there is no getting away from the lag a td5 turbo produces.

Has to be done:

Get a grip guys, as stated before this is an AWESOME forum but of lately has got a little touchy/ bitchy... take it easy and see the humourous side of things and move on.

If there is something that offends you/ untruthful or insulting, don't turn this forum into a handbag fight. Highlight the thread/ post and send it up to Martin with your reason why- then the correct course of action will be taken.

Ian, no offence (I don't know you) but Pete (BAS) and Garry (Alive) have both sponsored this forum therefore I belive they have the right to talk about their companies/ practices freely so that possible customers will see their products and consider buying, if you feel the need to prove your company or products it would be great if you could contribute to the forum as all the other site sponsors have, afterall they are the reason why we have a great forum to converse on.

I must confess that when suppliers start arguing on a public forum I make a mental note not to use them, whoever is right or wrong. It's just not a professional thing to do. Better to keep a dignified silence, imo.

Whilst I agree with what you say about the forum Glyn, I think it is only right and fair that Ian responded as he did after Garry had a pop at him earlier in the thread. Gary (sponsor or not) had a go at Ian (even if as a jest it was in bad taste) and shouldn't have done that.

Perhaps Gary can respond to Ian's comments politely and then we can move on.

I don't see why Ian should have to be a sponser to defend himself on here? John

If it was a personal dig... bad breath, doesn't wash etc, then yes it is a free forum. But it wasn't it is buisiness related.

For any company to advertise in any way on this forum they must be a sponsor..... someone stating how good they are and how good their products are is advertising.

Fact is that Ian has posted a more than adequate education and a huge amout of background.... that could now be seen by others and from that they could buy from him..... is that fair on the other forum sponsors who have dug into their pockets for the same right? I don't think so.

I am not saying anyone is in the right or wrong there, but if Ian had a problem with the comment he should have clicked on the 'report post' icon, and put a complaint into Martin who could then delete the post if need be and issue a warning to Garry if he felt it was needed. Appologies could have been made and everyone could move on happily and 99.9% of the public wouldn't know anything has gone on

Don't see what all the fuss is about other than my dads bigger than your dad mentality! The only people whom should be discussing the comments posted are Ian and Gary, no one else as this only inflames a flippant remark whether given in jest or not. If you do a search (K9F Thumbs Up Whistle ) you will see for yourself that Ian (Porny) offers an excellent service and has a loyal following which is an excellent recommendation in its self, but that's not the issue here is it? The issue is he took offence to a comment posted on here and other's jumped in to his defence instead of leaving well alone to allow Gary to answer the comment. Whistle
And Glyn, your spot on, in his answer he is advertising his services which is in breach of forum posting rules. Brendan (leeds) was reminded of this quite a few times if memory serves me, so leeds is now a sponsor helping this site to stay in existence for all of us to enjoy, and he now enjoys the right to post commercial information.
In an earlier post here you will see that I would use any of them for my remap, this is based on feedback received here on this forum from existing customers and I fully believe they all offer an outstanding service to their customers. Every one takes things different ways and to be honest when I read Gary's post I was expecting a witty remark from Porny with some good banter following, not this. So as we are all Adults can we move on? and let Gary and Ian sort any differences they may or may not have with the comment posted Thumbs Up

I agree

I hope that nobody’s wooden spoon was used here.

Please can we just get on, be nice and if there are issues sort them out like adults and in a light hearted nice way. Though I do agree that any nasty posts by nasty people should be robustly challenged.

Thank you

Boy
