Have a read of this hope you get the picture Augusto Thumbs Up

These things are an extremely crude way of making your engine produce more power, as they try to fool your engine. There are many parameters within the software that should be changed to make a nicely balanced state of tune, which these external boxes can never access.

There is no plug in tuning box that can compare with a properly made remap.

If you're going to do it, do it properly or not at all.

Augusto, those are generic modules which you plug into your landy and go. The Alive tuning and BAS remaps are tuned in to your landy's ecu by a interface unit as no two landy's are the same offering a more tailored remap to your needs. Thumbs Up

Shocked Karl, I was thinking of getting the BAS remap in May, when I am down in York, at what revs do you get the flat spots? I want the remap for towing my caravan/boat trailer.

Brian forget your remaps etc and get one of these for towing

LOL Rolling with laughter Very funny! Pete is good, but Ian is just a pretender.

Handbags out eh? Mr. Green

Let's not go there. Exclamation

Ohhh... interesting reply.

So... I'm pretender.

Gary, what exactly makes you qualified to post such a comment?

This topic comes up quite a bit and does get bit boring.... but maybe you would like to compare qualifications and experiences on a open forum - as I have nothing to hide.

I'll start....

Qualifications:

Apart from the normal A levels, I have:

An ONC in Engineering

A HNC in Automotive Engineering

A BSc in Design and Management

Various BTEC and City and Guilds Qualifications

Expereience:

11 Years experience (starting with an Apprenticeship) in Powertrain Reseach and Development for a very relevant company. This covers amoung other things - 3 years in Engine Build, 2 Years in Vehicle Workshops, various other placements in different EMS, Emssions and Facilities developments, and then 6 years doing various engine/powertrain development on CI and SI engines.
This in addtional to various machining/fabrication work....

If you search for my name you will find a couple of SAE papers to do with CSSRE amoung other things - using a single cylinder development engine, and then more recently I've been working on Hybrid Development.

I was doing full power curves on Supercharged V8's before you'd even worked out what a fuel map looked like on a Td5. I bet you've never even tried listening for det on a petrol engine at idle let alone at full chat.

Have you any understanding on the effects of tuning on emmissions, temps, longevity etc etc.

I've never denied working with Pete - and he is very good at what he does.... thats why I like working with him.

I struggle with production ECU's and interigating them (hence working with Pete) - I'm used to working with very different tools... but being the skilled person you are I'm sure you have a full understanding of INCA and VISION software?

Development ECU's and software is easy for me....

I even had 4.2 Jag Supercharged V8's running on stand alone ECU's before most people.

So Gary, lets see your qualifications and expereince?

Unless I'm mistaken didn't you only get into tuning because you bought a td5 Disco?... but before that you had no engineering experience apart from some waffle about renault 5 tuning?

Is that back-peddling? Calling someone a pretender seems to be both sweeping and derogatory? In my opinion such a statement potentially speaks volumes about its originator. Whatever happened to manners, decency and respect?

I will doubtless be in the market for various upgrades and tuning – I will only choose a company and personalities I respect. Don’t expect my custom. Evil or Very Mad

..and if you read past my post, you will see that Pete not only tried to sort out my flat spot issue, (and has sent me several different maps to tweak things) he did it in super quick time.

I'm more than happy with the service I received from BAS - Not just saying that, and no connection with Pete other than a customer who appreciates personal and speedy service, a rarity these days.

No remap is ever going to be 100% perfect, without junking the ECU and writing your own code from scratch. It should also be said that if (as I did due to distance from BAS) you use tool to load the remaps, rather than getting them setup by their creators, on a rolling road etc, they will inevitably be somewhat compromised. Saying that, it's a damn good compromise. Smile

Now, please guys, let's not let this thread degenerate any further into a slanging match:

What with the responses to Zagato's posts, the Nancocom thread, and this thread (whatever the rights and wrongs of any of them) what'a happening to the friendly site I had got used to? If I wanted abuse, I could have gone on the Landyzone forums..! Whistle
