Off Topic From where I'm from that looks like a half decent glass of 'central heating for tramps' (cider) and good enough to guzzle!

plastic connector
The outlet on a Freelander 2 fuel filter cartridge appears to be the same as the one required. With a bit of inginuity and a bleed bubble (rover 25 diesel?) should be possible to make something for very little cost.

Does anyone know the easy way (apart from paying someone else) to change the oil filter on a F2 without getting warm oil down your arm?

Confused

This is the pump I made. As you can see there is only one connection on the 'tool' as I never connected the bleed tool in line. I simply placed the end of the pipe into a container to catch the fuel as it was pumped through. The other end was pushed into the female connector of the fuel line. It took about 2 minutes and about 2 pints of fuel before the fuel became air free.

Here is the Land Rover tool

A picture with dimensions of the male end of the Land Rover tool.

A picture with dimensions of the male end of the home made tool. As you can see its smaller in diameter but it sealed. Obviously I would like to get an end that is the correct Ø

This is the location of the connector that the bleed tool fixes to. Push the blue tabs in and pull the connector off the feed to the fuel pump.

Hi, I've bought a bleeding pump on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.it/DIESEL-ENGINE-FUEL-PRIMING-PUMP-/110475636037?pt=UK_Measuring_Tools_Levels&hash=item19b8dc6d45#ht_2098wt_912) the male connection has the same dimension of the land rover tool, only the transparent rubber pipe length is shorter.
But I have a doubt, can you explain me which is the correct direction of the fuel in the pump???? In my pump the direction is from the male to the female connection (there is an arrow on the pump..) while in the AndrewS post, I’ve understood that he take the fuel from an external tank and pump it in the fuel circuit across the male connection. this is just a problem of my bad English Embarassed ??????
Ciao
Lorenzo

Ciao Lorenzo, your pump is correct!!the flux is from the male to female.
You must pump the fuel until there are more bubbles! Thumbs Up Matteo

Just for interest sake. I have replaced the diesel filter fiter about four times and I have never had to bleed the system at all. I just start the engine and let her idle for 3 minutes. Never had an air lock or anything like that. Engine has never missed a beat after starting after a filter change.

Did you fill the new filter with diesel before replacing it?

Just finished the job with the bleeding pump.
There is no need to have any connector on both sides of the pump:
- female end goes straight to an empty container
- initially I have tried male connector but I could not have a good sealing - end of the pipe changed to 10 mm (outside diameter) solved the problem - fits there with perfect sealing Janusz

Did you try putting the filter back without doing this bleeding thing? If so what happened?
