The Boy,
Very sad to heard that a car that should be a pleasure has been converted to a headache. That can be happens to any one of us. I'm really don't understand why they refuse to change the whole car or at least put a new engine/transfer, etc. Your car has been in the dealer hands 4 or more times with major faults. That is completely unnaceptable Is it possible to claim to some authority in UK? At least, Here in Chile we have a Consumer Protection Office that in general is quite efficient, providing legal advice and dealing with the producer in cases like that. In Chile the law said that you must accept the 1st repair. But if at the second time the product doesn't work they must to change for a new one or came back the money at your decision. In UK should be more less the same. Regards, Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Hi guys, yes i am a victim of this fault. heavy knocking noise and loss of power. a lot of my mates also have the new puma 2.4 but strangely their ignition key is a new design whereas my ignition key is identical to that of my Td5. Subsequently all of thier motors run smoothly with no reported knocking noise. Do you think all the models with the old ignition keys are linked to the faulty engines??
My vehicle has been at the dealership for a week now, they have installed a new ECU and re programmed it with no luck. Now the fight begins to replace the engine!!! Land Rover's don't leak oil, they simply mark their territory! |

Had a one hour meeting with the franchise manager who tried to tell me is no such gtr with referance to the engine knocking I had printed it off for him but he still said they had looked for it and there was no such bulitin

It is unbelievable I remember a lot of words in Spanish , but I will be banned if I put it here. Why don't ask them -in a polite way- to look together the GTR to find out the SSM38972. Or propose him the following: You buy one day access to the GTR and together with them you entering in the GTR system. If you found the SSM, they will paid you the bill. If you need any help please contact me. I can send you print screens directly from the GTR system to prove the existence of this document Regards Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Cheers mate but I think they will now go away and find it tomorrow as I did have a go at them for saying that! I even gave the number to them but now they say it may be the fuel pressure sensor that could be at fault.

I had a knocking experience this morning and I'm going to make this short story long.
About 200 yards from home after a "cold start" (no so cold really given that it was 70 degrees F outside) the engine knocked loudly for about 10 seconds accompanied by a loss of power and the engine light coming on. Stopped and scratched my head and lifted the bonnet as you do. (God knows why). As it happens the dealer is on my way to work so avoiding roadside recovery I drove another 10 minutes and joined the back of the RRS queue and left it with them for the day. I thank the above deity that I don't live in the outback and own a Land Rover. They had to look at the much discussed clutch rattle anyway so I added this to the list of issues. Phone call this afternoon...."We've spoken with Land Rover you can pick it up it is driveable"...new clutch on order (known issue), two fuel injection system sensors (known issue) on order from "Old Blighty". The dealer is impressing me so far. So why isn't my experience associated with the Service Bulletin...the engine light came on and hence the sensors! Others with a knocking experience should look out for this and not necessarily fear the worst. These sensors are our friends and also our enemies. Thanks to places like this forum I don't fear the unknown. Mahn '08 Defender 110 ex '95 Disco 300 Tdi www.aulro.com |

Those sensors have been replaced on mine maybe four or five times plus just about everything else on the fuel system including two pumps! It is still at the dealers at the moment but I will be ringing them this morning to check on progress. Hope fully the smashed window and scratched paint work has been replaced after it was broken into over the weekend while at the dealers. They emailed me yeesterday to say that they will not be held responcible for the kit stolen out of the vehilce but I expected that.

No they are responsbile for it - whilst in their care it is their responsbility and their insurance. just as it would be with the hire car. i wouldnt stand for that - ask for their insurance company, totally down to them to secure. Mike |

Sorry mate but if they have taken reasonable measures to protect the vehicle then they cannot be held liable. They are saying it was in their secure compound with locked gates and steel fence with barbed wire so they have taken suitable precautions. Now I have taken advice form the insurance legal help line and this is right. Now I have a very strong feeling my vehicle was not in the compound but the customer car park. I tried to follow this up and asked for the name of the police officer who attend and when asked why I told them that I wanted to see the report as to the location of the car when they came. The dealers said that by the time the police arrived it had been moved to the vehicle to the workshop where they dusted it for prints. Read into that what you will. I asked for the name off the officer who first attended and they told me they did not know. |
