Been following this tread
If I was you The Boy why not buy the remaping box that Pete at Bell Autos sell for the Puma engine with that you can find out what "P" codes are coming up making your engine run like ( Censored ) all you got to do then is Google the "P" codes to see what's wrong you can then tell the dealer whats at fault the box only take under 5 mins to read the fault codes.
Ok it's £200 but when it Brakes down next time you could clear the "P" codes and carry on your way as by the sound of things that all your dealer is doing reseting "P" codes on the ECU and saying it fine know.

I have this box check and clear all my "P" codes on ECU and keep getting the same one after clearing them all as I got no A/C It tells me that the cooling fan for A/C is not working well it won't work as not got one. Rolling with laughter

So I would think that you could see a patten on the "P" codes showing you more whats wrong with the engine I take it that your engine is standard and not been remap or any thing? Then you would soon see the areas that are not right with the running of your engine. Then you can really have a good go a LR as you will have the information as hand whats not right with it you start quoting "P" codes and that to LR custom sever they can't not give you answers on the phone also when you ring them tell them that the phone call is being recored well thats what all the company's do now to save any come back on them.

Only other thing is if you not got the new mod sump fitted go off roading get front prop to hole the sump and just drive!!!! that way you get the new mod sump and a new engine out of LR Mr. Green

Just an update for you guys...

It broke down again on the way to work agian this mornign. Same as before the engine sounded like it was destroying itself and then stopped. Now recovered and in the dealers. LR engineer said nothing wrong with it only two days ago so that shows just how much he knows.

I feel for you mate.

L/R Stratstone told me 'absolutely nothing wrong with your vehicle' couple of days ago (you'll see my tale of woe elsewhere on site), I've just been under her with Japseroony and guess what - a huge oil leak from around the transfer / gear box. Loads of super clean clear oil all over exhaust etc plain to see. So Tatstones mustn't have even looked underneath.

I like you love the car, but just want it to work. Was going to try and find an email for L/R but reading above looks like I will be back on the phone.

Oh well might get the HSE Disco again.........every cloud.......

Have they sorted you a decent hire car?

Oh and received a customer service survey about the breakdown / dealer interaction - thats going to be a blast filling in!!!!

Good luck mate. Stornoway Grey 90 XS

sorry lads

i must defend land rover uk

in my case the service was very good i would like to point out a few points

it breaks they tow it away you get a top spec disco or range rover same day or in the morning for as long as it takes to repair your one not a punto or fiesta

ive had a free factory tour and off road day for two they paid for my first service and i had set of spot lamps for free with four tickets to the london motor show what can you say they are the very good

so it as a few faults lots of new cars break or have some faults not all engines will fail or clutches fall apart and gearbox problem won't happen to you all

we have a 58 plate l200 warrior at work the rad blew up took six weeks to fix and the guy got a colt Rolling with laughter
as a loaner Thumbs Up

if land rover are building **** defenders complain they will sort the problem out they are updating products and parts weekly if you tell them

the only problem and weak link seems to be the dealer you must get them on your side if you have a problem

I have got to agree with you on this !

You have to get the dealer on side failure to win over these people will cost in the long term and create a living hell
I live in South Yorkshire and travelled over a hundred miles to buy mine just because I knew that when it goes wrong I would get their full support !

Maybe we should list dealers good and bad then prospective customers can make their own informed decisions !
There are no laws dictating that you have to have it serviced or repaired at the place of purchase either so a owner could litteraly take it anywhere for servicing.

Just a thought folks ! DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

Just got mine back after it broke down again. They say it is now fixed and does not knock in the mornings, they told me it was water in the fuel again but it has already had the fix for that (off the road for three weeks doing it) so I am not convinced. still it got the 25 miles home without breaking down which is something.

The boy,

I hope that you have better luck this time.
Really, I love this car but has been in the workshop for guarantee more than any other car that I had (at least 4 times in less than a year) Confused That's not good for the LR reputation Sad

Mine is OK until now after the rear door were changed due a crack around 1 month ago, but other minor faults are still not solved 100%.

What sticks in my throat is that my old 200tdi i had for about eight years only broke down once in all the 1000s of miles I did and all that was, was a hole in the radiator while going over the Pyrinees. Still maybe this is the turning point Rolling Eyes

Its a pity to hear that and I understand you.
Its fustrating when the dealer said "all as been cleared" and the same thing happens again and again.
May be a dealer change can help. Did you have some feedback from LR?

For me turning point is still far away.

An old 200TDi is not an alternative: that can fail more frecuently than the Puma without guarantee and I cant use it (I live in the Metropolitan area were the 200Tdi are not allowed due emissions).

A TD5 maybe, but buy a good one can be a lottery and also no guarantee. Also as a family of 6, I dont like the rear seat bench for safety reasons.

As far as LR guarantee can solve the problems I will be with the Puma. But if the motor start to be broken and broken again probably I will come back the car to LR or ask for a brand new one.

Well I dropped my 110 puma into my local dealers yesterday to have the new engine installed under warranty.
Am very concerned now - I had to return to the garage as I left my phone in the truck, only to see the 110 up on a lift with the oil draining out of her and 4 mechanics standing around looking confused underneath

Me - Hi lads , do you know what your doing , joking !!

Mechanic - No. We have never replaced this engine before !!

Me - Holy Censored , you dont have a spare TD5 knocking around that you could fit instead Smile

Mechanic - laugh !

Now I am seriously worried - reckon I haven't seen the last of the problems with this car

Evil or Very Mad

Anyone know if I am entitled to a new 3 year warranty on the new engine ?

Nidge.

No Big Cry All parts replaced are back dated to when the car was delivered to the customer.

Unless fitted in the last few months when you get 12 months warranty on the part. Mike

My 08 makes a loud diesel knock noise, when cold and after driving a short distance. If you lift of the throttle and continue to accelerate this noise stops.

Is this the knocking noise we are talking about or just as I presumed a common rail diesel knock.

Your views are appreciated,
