I have been confident that is all it has ever been, just trying to be on the safe side. My 90 is a April 08 so hopefully most of the little gremlins should be gone. Lets hope. 1999 90 TD5 County

Does anyone know the legal position here. I have just bought a new Defender less than 3 months ago and the symptoms re the engine knock all apply. Going by the quoted VIN number my car has the the unmodified engine. Can I reject the car and ask for a replacement or have a new engine fitted. Pity because I love the car. Advice appreciated

I assume Guy Salmon - just go and state the problem and ask them to fix it under warranty: they are usually good - you could reject a car within a certain time, however, you should give them the chance to resolve the issue. Mike

Hi I have been through this so you can learn by my mistakes. Mine has been a bag of nails since new. I went back to the dealers again and again. What I did wrong was to be aloud to be fobbed off with promisses that they later denied they made and once past the 6 month point it is very dificult to get a replacement. You sould demand a replacement now they will try and stall you until you get past the 6 month point but you stand up to them and put it in writting!

Im (hopefully) coming to the end of a battle with the dealer on mine - and agree you need to put it in writing, but you also have to give them the chance to fix. im at 8 months

You could always get one in worse condition aswell - so make an assessment Mike

You know why the dealer is saying the 08's are better than the '07's so chop it in ....he will be one more vehicle nearer his target ....and make more money out of you!

A very quick scan of the corporate news section Land Rover site comes up with the following names but you'll need top check who is current..

Anthony Bradbury, Marketing Director of Land Rover UK

Phil Popham, Land Rover's Managing Director

John Edwards, managing director, Land Rover UK.

I wrote directly* to the MD of LR a few years ago when I was not satisfied with a vehicle and shortly after was offered a replacement. What have you got to loose?

*Addressed for the personal attention of.

I don't surpose you have the address with post code do you?

Have written my letters and this is very much the last chance cafe for me.

I take it it is still Lodge Lane, Solihull the management are at?

Cheers

Boy

They won't answer faxes or e-mail's. You need to write via recorded delivery and mark the envelope 'for the personal attention of'.

Even then they dont...you have to ask a family member to escalate it through management - and even then they struggle. Mike

All my letters so far are sent recorded and they jsut don't bother. One of the managers I sent two to did not answer but when I spoke to him on the phone said he had had them but when I ask why he did not answer he just would not answer the question.

I am going to send it to the Banbury address but I am not holding my breath Smile

Recorded letters also are not answered: I sent 3 regarding engine oil problem without any answer Sad

Really I don't understand the customer service policy of LR. I had very good experiences in the customer services of Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai and others (despite the quality of the cars). They provide a contact WEB page for the claims, they stamp a number in the claim and you receive an answer in write or a phone call between 2 or 3 days to try to sort out the problem.

Why LR should be different? Eduardo

Well it did it again and broke down on the way home. Waiting for them to come and take it away. How long will this go on before they do something about it? Big Cry
