Eberspacher Heater for your Defender!
Came across one of these fitted to a Defender the other day. http://www.eberspacher.com/products/air-heating/ Superb bit of kit that doesn't create condensation, used a lot in boats and lorries Thumbs Up

I have one fitted. They are expensive but rather good.

If your going for a used one get it in the summer when they are cheaper, about now they fetch a lot and are usually incomplete. ie quickly removed from work vans with plugs cut off.

I paid £700 for mine from Ribblesdale Auto Electrics through there ebay account a year ago, They supply a UK spec one with the full 2 year warranty.

Fitted into my MSS cubby box

Cubby is quite big, have yet to make a false bottom to reclaim unused space. Doesn't get hot in there.

Guys at work fitted a plug for neat fitting, there is also a plug on the roof outside for heating controls in the roof tent Very Happy

Heat is distributed 3 ways via a manifold at the rear of the cubby box

Exhaust and Air inlet are through the gearbox cover, the exhaust needs a silencer as it is noisy.

The fuel pump sits under the drivers seat, I was lucky enough to have 2 extra spare fuel tanks when I bought the Defender and never used the 2nd spare so this is now dedicated to the heater. As mine is a TD5 it can be fiddly to fit the fuel pick up to the fual tank.

EDIT:
I think WYVERN on here was looking into this also, did you get one ?

Steve

Would be interested to see how you've done the roof plug for the roof tent as that's what mine's going to be for

cheers

Hi

Thanks, one of my more successful projects Smile

Heater id Eberspacher D2 Airtronic ( D= Diesel 2= 2kw )

The connector is the same as you can see on the front of the cubby box http://www.deutschconnectors.eu/

These were salvaged from the bin (s?!t there expensive) but waterproof and small. There must be cheaper alternatives.

Being a complete novice as anything to do with electrics (!!!), I have been speaking to a Chandlers in Largs, Ayrshire about this very model.

Was trying to figure out where to put it. I only need it for cabin heating - no tents or anything, so no need for extra ducting.

Anyway, planning on getting it done in the next few weeks, so will post photos when complete.

cheers steve. which one is it though? mine's being done at ribblesdale and it would be good to get the extra connectors first so they can do the whole thing in one go.

davie, i ve been struggling with that too. thought about the nakatenenga under cubby box thing but its expensive for what it is. i dont want to lose the cubby box storage so the only other realistic option (for me) is on top of a wheel arch just behind the passenger seat. both my under seat boxes are full so cant go in there.

Great pics Thumbs Up

The one I mentioned was situated under the rear wheel arch I think with hot air blasting into the rear where the guy slept. Legally he had to have it fitted when picking up boats in cold countries below a certain temperature. Had a few pick ups in Norway & Poland!

Ribblesdale are really good, everything was perfect when my stuff arrived form them. Post some piccys when they are done.

Right, connectors...

I have 2 panel connectors as shown in the picture (mine have 6 connections only and a yellow band), I do not know the part number, 1 on the cubby, 1 on the roof

The roof connector has sufficient wire to connect to the cubby with a 6 pin plug part number AS610-98PA

The heater control also has the same plug on the end allowing it to either plug into the cubby or the roof, when plugged into the roof the roof wire is plugged into the cubby....still with me Smile

Honestly its simpler than it sounds Smile

Plugs have caps on when not used.

2 x panel mounts (these are the same as the plugs but panel mount)
2 x plugs AS610-98PA
2 x caps

Wires just fitted in the connectors, special tools are required though to crimp. I just searched the UK for a supplier but could not find one Confused best to e-mail http://www.deutschconnectors.eu/ these guys with the part number.

BigMike, If you dont mind me asking, what kind of price do Ribblesdale charge for doing all the fitting? I'd like to budget for having one fitted this year.

steve, thanks for that.

WP, £150. But that's with me supply the ready fabricated aux tank, the eberspacher feed already in it, and the whole thing suitably mounted. If they put it in the main tank the fitting costs is more as they have to drop the tank to get the feed in. I'd have done that myself but I already have an aux wheel tank on the o/s rear and to drop them both simultaneously would be a nightmare, as would removing the aux tank first due to the bleed valve in the base. I didn't want anyone messing with that set up so have designed a new small tank to fit in the n/s rear wheel arch at the front edge. In fact I emailed the sketch to allisport last week. It holds 6 litres.
