I agree totally. But find both resposes disappointing and somewhat insulting. 'I'm in' but think any more engagement with Land Rover at this stage from their responses utterly pointless unless they can be less condescending and more receptive.
It's quite laughable if it wasn't so important to the masses that are interested in this event. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! Last edited by K9F on 23rd Jan 2015 12:41pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Hi All,
There seems to be some confusion on this. As stated the Land Rover Defender is due to cease production at the end of 2015. While Land Rover intend to celebrate this iconic vehicle and also have intentions to continue with the Defender name in the future, at this time there have been no official announcements regarding the end of production plans and events. As part of the celebration of the iconic Defender, we have released the 3 limited edition derivatives this year. Many will have already seen the Giant 1km Sand Drawing at Red Wharf Bay. For any that may not have here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/embed/4roB2KHK3PE There is also further information here: Jaguar Land Rover Newsroom Defender At this stage, while further announcements have not been made, this does not mean we do not intent to continue to celebrate the history of the Defender. In respect to the Solihull Factory contact details, as they operate a customer centre for factory tours as well as an experience centre, they would need to carry out site management for any visits and events. This does not mean that Land Rover are not passionate about the vehicle, as we understand the enthusiasm and passion that is driven by the Defender. There has been a lot of interest in the end of production of the Defender and as such this led to the specific exhibition being included in the Solihull tour to celebrate a vehicle that really shows the heritage and history of the Land Rover brand. I can appreciate the frustration that at this early stage of the year we are unable to provide further details and discussion with regards to the final Defender being built, but please rest assured that more information will be provided closer to the event. I would also kindly ask that people remain polite and respectful. Regards, Ryan |

It appears the actual confusion here is with the few members who would like to organise a convoy of vehicles with the final destination at the factory.
I would suggest that the members here formulate their own plan, starting points, numbers and dates etc then propose this to JLR. A company of this nature cannot be responsible for organising the convoy for the forum. |

I agree with X4SKPīs approach.
I donīt want to see the Defender go, and I wonīt let it without a fare send off. The closest analogie to JLRīs situation is when German car manufacturer Porsche (there is a connection, delivered itīs first car in 1948, ignition key on the left side of the wheel) stopped building aircooled 911īs in 1996. Itīs entire marketing force and management were busy looking forward and concerntrating on how to sell the new cars, 996 and Boxster. One thousand spent on celebrating the past is a thousand less on promoting the future. It was in retrospect the right approach, and hasnīt in any way been detrimental to how the older products are valued and enjoyed today. Let JLR get on with doing the right thing with DC100, which they will ultimately do. The Red Wharf Bay video and the three LEīs willl have cost them a few bob. Any more time spent on the past would be taking energy away from their future. We, the enthusiasts will have to look after ourselves for a while. The time will come when they will have a little more time for the car and the owners that has given them a wonderful brand image to work with. The replies given were polite enough in my view. Let's all calm down. I would have been very suprised if JLR would jump on board this early.
This is the first step of al long road to get everything organised. We ourselves have no real idea if this would lift of and the numbers to expect (we hope though). The first step is to notify them, which has been done now. The reply from Ryan@LandRover tells me they are now watching this tread. This to me is very encouraging. I think the idea of WHAT is becoming clear: for those who can, a trip from RDB to the Factory, for those who can't, just coming to the factory. Next step, I think is to get some more solid numbers of expected participants, both for the trip as the end stop. This means contacting clubs, in the uk, overseas and the rest of the world. I will create a poll on this topic to get an idea of the interest on the members on this forum, and once done, please spread the word: over social media, the club you belong to or clubs you know, aftermarket providors, independant specialised mechanics, etc... Let's get that ball roling. PS I'm thinking of creating a website just for that purpose so if people do not specifically want to become member of this forum, they have the ability to voice their interest as well. Should be simple enough. Later on we may put a date on it and re-check the interest, or even check which date would generate the most interest. You can't expect JLR to jump for every dick-tom-or-harry with an idea without it having a bit more substance to it. Personally I think Defender-Stu did a great job to make first contact. Without it Ryan would not know of it; He gave the personal input from JLR. |

With respect and politeness. What has that got to with the request from Defender Stu and the non-related stock answer? Three main points....none of which were really dealt with..... If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

The way I read all this:
They know of it now. They just don't know what to do with it yet. They can't commit to anything and wont say anything that could bind them at this point. Don't worry about it. I think we are a step further now: regardless of the standardized reply, there's a Ryan watching this tread. Let's build on that. Not the most direct route we would've liked maybe, but there's movement. |

Some of you need to stop being rude towards our reps here.
There will be a corporate policy on what JLR have or have not decided to do, what has been said is that there are no immediate plans. Not that there will be nothing - which is the way some of you are taking it. Being rude is no way to get JLR on board with any ideas to stage an event - in fact quite the opposite. It is January now, the end of production at Solihull is December. That's a long enough period of time to get something sorted. I'm sure that the spark of the idea has been flagged up, but expecting JLR to just turn around straight away and say it's fine is nonsense. Remember Solihull is a car factory first and foremost, there isn't spare space for hundreds of public vehicles to suddenly decide they are going to hold a rally and appear at the factory gates. JLR now know that enthusiasts want to give the Defender a send-off. But being aggressive about doing so is no way to enamour yourselves to JLR - nor, frankly to me. You're giving JLR representatives a hard time using the forum and the name of the forum and I find that unacceptable. It stops now, if you want JLR on side think about how you go about it. Ryan is a fellow human being, and a way into JLR for the forum which could suddenly disappear if some of you want to be totally selfish about it. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Yes, the Defender as we know it finishes in December and yes, many are sad to see the end but as everything in life we have to move on, mainly, as in this case, due to circumstances beyond our control. Financial manufacturing reasons, new emissions rulings, safety regulations, all these are out of our control so we just have to man up and move on. In some ways it could be us as the general public to blame as we supposedly put the rule makers in charge but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Yes as enthusiasts it does seem fitting that we acknowledge the end of our passion to a particular lump of metal and yes I will more than likely join a tribute but it will be as an enthusiast, not as a JLR employee etc. I for one am taking up the chance to visit the factory in four weeks time to go on the heritage tour along with my youngest boy so he can have the memory of seeing some of the last of the Defenders being built allbeit in a way that wil nver be seen again on such a scale. JLR is a business and as such in it to make a profit and we will just have to wait to for them to reuse the Defender name, don't forget that the name was only introduced 25 years ago as just another brand name on a style of vehicle that has followed the same basic styling concept for the past 67 years. |

Get on the Land Rover Experience website or just google Land Rover factory tour. It's Ģ45 for a 3 hour tour but they're going fast. You can do it all on t'internet as the phone usually goes to an answerphone service. I'm still waiting for a call back from yesterday!
