Martin surely this is a two way street? We are not idiots and should not be treated as such! Whilst 'hands may be tied and a gagging order of some sort in place' we as the loyal and avid customers deserved a better more balanced response than the one we got......twice! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

You could have had no response at all, or a blanket "not at all".

Ryan has had the decency to reply with the current JLR thinking. That this isn't what you wanted to hear doesn't give you the right to be rude. Would you do it face to face or on the phone?  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

We had already received the JLR party line response less than half an hour before before Ryan's almost identical one...then yet again two hours later......I would vehemently 'argue the case' that we deserved better given the almost identical responses we did receive. Face to face or over the phone didn't happen and things would have panned out completely different in all likelihood under those circumstances. What did happen as mentioned was more than a little disappointing and none of the requests bar one were even acknowledged, the one that was only partially.

It was a 'robotic-like' response and if my reference to 'Bryan' offended I apologise but it was ironic and still humorous in my mind not personal. Being 'forcefed' the same information over and over again is tedious irrespective of whether you 'want to hear it or not' it only needs to be said or written once! This event will be great with or without JLR'S participation. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

You could argue that the original mail sent to JLR didn't really contain much substance or give much to reply to

A simple 'do you intend to have a defender convoy from Anglesea to Solihull' may give the direct response you were after.

You cannot expect JLR to form a response to a question that is almost impossible to give.

It needs proper organisation with numbers etc for them to even try to accommodate. Unless you are wanting LR to take the idea and arrange it themselves.

No need to be so harsh. Take the statement and develop the idea on this forum that can be properly proposed.

Anyway...

I did not expect much from a first communication. Personally, due tor Ryan's intervention, we got more then I expected.
The point of a first contact was:
1. To find out if JLR had anything in the pipeline: apparently "not really".
2. To let them know we have: which Ryan took note off, otherwise he wouldn't have taken the time to react here in person.

Anything else is a bonus, which by having this contact with Ryan is.

It could've gone maybe a bit different, but in the end the result counts.

I.o.w. I would appreciate it if we could move on and leave this event behind us and build on the possitive.
I may not agree with the reaction of K9F, but it got us a direct line with LandRover and for that I am gratefull.

I for one am encouraged by the position we're at wright now.

So I suggest to keep the ideas flowing and maybe in a couple of months we can build a poll on it.

Now there was a good idea. Fancy adding one Zone as it's your thread, why wait, people can change their mind accordingly and the time will fly?......

Great. With some numbers this will give an indication and perhaps give a little more bargaining power with any requirements sought/needed.

This thread is beginning to look like watching a car crash in slow motion.

When I saw that well meaning but amateurish communication to Land Rover I just thought "Disaster"!

Those dreaded words "To whom it may concern" - business code for I couldn't be bothered to find out and I'll leave it up to someone at Land Rover to try and work out which of their thousands of employees at their multi-site estates should have this forwarded onto them.

Zero attempt to sell them any 'benefits' of getting involved. Zero attempt to communicate 'the basic ask'.

Is someone at Land Rover expected to say to their bosses - "Tell the Solihull Gatehouse that a few 'anoraks' in their old Defenders are pitching up some day in the Summer. There might be 17 of them or 1700 don't know how many, just wave them past security, they can park in the yard and take some photographs. If they need the loo just let them inside, I'm sure they will form an orderly queue. If some are hungry we can supply bacon rolls and cups of tea - tell the canteen to maybe expect them but no idea how many we are catering for. No idea what time they are arriving onsite or departing but it will probably clash with a shift change and they might even form a traffic jam for our suppliers lorries (JIT - forget it). Don't worry about any mess they leave behind - I'll brush up around the yard after they depart and remove the oil stains and any broken down Defenders unable to return home".

As mentioned the best thing to do is get an idea of numbers, come up with a route / routes (a written outline explaining the event) then see how they feel. To be fair it will happen either way in form of large or small groups.

I find it difficult to describe the wright topics. Atm I have this:

- Yes, I will be there.
- Yes, I will be there, but only if there's some sort of organisation.
- Yes, I will be there, but only if there's a roadbook.
- Yes, I will be there, if JLR gets involved.
- Yes, I will be there, if my schedule permits.
- I haven't descided yet. Let's see how it all pans out.
- No, I wont be there.
- No, I wont be there. It's just too far.

I'm trying to make it so that we get a genuine idea and not just form, if you know what I mean.
It would 've been better to have some sort of matrix as there's probably people that will only say yes if a couple of things happen (e.g. schedule + roadbook + JLR). In the case there's to many variables for uou, I advice to select undescided.

Suggestions are welcome. Opinions too.

Good luck to the people who sort this all out and I'm looking forward to the event as I like everyone on here loves and hates our defenders as a family

Thank you

Hi Zone

May I suggest that you keep the poll simple to start with,

Yes - I will be there
No - I will not be there
Maybe - depends on what we can organise

That way you will get a good idea of the minimum number of attendees and things can move forward from there.

Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !!
2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold
2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold
2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member
2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days !

I think it is a great idea.

On a personal level I think JLRs responses were cr@p. I bet you anything if this gets going and maybe gets some publicity they will want to be involved.
The general way we are treated by JLR (like poor relations) I would decline any offer from them and make this a LR enthusiast event.I would hate to see JLR steam in at the 11th hour and take all the credit/good PR.

If I can help I will and I really hope this happens Thumbs Up 2003 Td5 90
