Hello All
UK / Ireland Land Rover Clubs So far I have made contact with around 90% of the following list, this weekend should see the 'first contact' completed... who knew there were so many... not me... If you know of any more, send me a PM, and I will make contact, and add into the list. I have also put together the beginnings of a European Land Rover Club List, and are thinking of the best way to make similar contact. Any ideas from our International Members would be great. First Contact with Land Rover Clubs I covered 5 points... 1. Introduced the idea that is developing here. 2. Asked if they had any similar plans. 3. Asked if they would be interested in participating. 4. Explained we have plans to put up a web site, to focus the idea and its organisation, (I will follow up by sending each Club the link when available). 5. Invited any initial feedback. Can I suggest for those following this and interested in taking part we now try to set a date. My first thoughts were to try and find a relevant date, but I haven't come up with one so far. Land Rover describes this as 'a year of celebrating the Defender'... so maybe we should just go with what makes sense for us, and press on... For me it would be summer, July or August probably avoiding any major Land Rover shows. Unless I have misread it - you have missed the Series One club off (how could you!) and got the Series Two club down twice! Good effort though Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

With regards to a date, please have sympathy on the mass group that is "Teacher Land Rover enthusiasts"! I realise we are vastly in the minority but I miss out on so much because of being a teacher, even though we have so many holidays. 2002 110 td5

With respect, have you thought or arranged an arrival point where potentially hundreds of cars will gather? That number of clubs approached could easily see vast numbers arrive and would look a little amateurish if having invited these clubs, you cannot go through with your plan....

Hello strang Thanks for the 'proof read'...and you're right... but don't worry I haven't missed out the Series One Club! they were on a 'page break' of my master list...and I missed them in the 'short list' of club names. The Series 2 Club was listed twice, (but contacted once), as they are listed in two ways on the www The Series 2 Club & Series 2 Club again thanks... ironic really as the S1, S2 & S3 Clubs were first on my list... Hello All,
So what's happened so far... The D2Net idea to drive in convoy from Red Wharf Bay to Solihull, and to try and get a good turnout. zone30 kicked things off and is now working on a site to ‘anchor’ this, I have made contact with most UK Clubs to test the enthusiasm for the idea. We would like to now try and find members of this forum who are willing to help organise this. Posted here are the beginnings of a 2 Do List...which needs adding to as we progress. To try and keep things simple, but get organised, are there members out there who would like to take ‘ownership’ of one of the aspects on the list...or suggest other areas they have an interest in. The idea would then be to post the ‘headlines’ of what you find, for those following and interested in this tread, and PM / e-mail off line the more detailed information to this 'steering group'. We are in a kind of experiment here, who would like to take part... The Defender Tribute Convoy 2 Do List Defender Tribute Convoy Web Site zone30 Land Rover Clubs Contact X4SKP Route Planning (LL75 8RJ > B92 8NW) Isle of Anglesey County Council Birmingham City Council (Event Notification Requirements) North Wales Police West Midlands Police (Convoy Compliance) Red Wharf Bay Meeting Point Options Solihull / ‘Go Beyond’ End Point Options Red Wharf Bay info (Tide Timetable, Coast Guard, Beach Access) We also probably have members on this forum 'with skills' that possibly work in ‘related’ fields, Council, Police, Logistics, Legal, PR, Media, Film, Photography, Project Management, who could add into this. What do you think... Thanks SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Concerning the website: as I cannot find a descent background image - change of design idea:
Any picture that highlights the Defender's ability is welcome. Any picture that says "That's what a Defender is all about", also very welcome. Preferrably reasonably standard looks, not too modified. Please make sure you have ownership (object as well is picture) and allow us to use it. If you feel you can assist us in the previous post, even more welcome! |

Hello All
If you want to follow in general terms who else has expressed interest in joining us look at the 'Club Contact List' above... Interested Not Interested and No Reply (at last edit date for that post) I will go back to all the clubs when we have an agreed date, a reasonable level of logistics in place and web site up. Great work so far
Also have to let the AA know that they need to reroute the majority of their fleet to the area. One AA vehicle per 10 vehicles should do it! Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

Nice work Skip! Land Rover have their own 'fleet' of recovery vehicles - "Land Rover Assist". Nice if they would 'sponsor' part of this tribute from the owners of their vehicles! Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Hello strang
Good thought, thanks. If we get our act together on this, and if we get a few 'must have' logistics in place, and if we target the right people within LR with the right approach we might form a good 'alliance' between what we can 'deliver' and what they would be prepared to offer us. We need to get this to a level of 'critical mass' to be taken seriously. Currently I would say we are <10% into this. Also we are a Forum not a Club, but I'm still hopeful we can do this. If we fail, I'm still OK with a handful of Def2Net Members having a good day out. SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |
