Hi All
Quick update... I have been putting together a list of hopefully most of the Land Rover Owners Clubs in the United Kingdom, and Ireland, with up to date contact details. This week, all will get an introduction from me. I will test if they have any plans to do a similar 'event'. I will also try to establish if there is interest in their 'club members' potentially joining us. One thing has surfaced so far, there are numerous events already organised within most clubs, plus as we know there are the 'national' big events that are open to all. This may well come down to Def2Net members reaching a 'consensus' for a date, and then building support for others to join in. We have just 21 saying yes so far, without any details in place, setting a date, any date could see this number halved, through no 'fault' of those who have said they would like to give this a go. If it came down to a solid 10-20+ that wanted to do this, I'm still in. SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Perhaps, despite my post-midnight enthusiasm last night, simply setting a date and RV is all that should be done. The excuse for a gathering is there, set the date and fix it and let all of us like-minded Def2.net members come along as we wish. Nothing formal, just a case of 'we'll be there, hope you will too....'. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

It maybe that Gaydon would be a better bet than Lode Lane because it is already home to a substantial facility open to the public. Though if JLR are planning something of their own they may be doing it there. Stoneleigh would be another possibility, not a million miles from Solihull for anyone who wants to pass by the factory gates and big enough for a large or small gathering.
Both are Centralish and would make the whole thing not dissimilar to ld old Heritage Run Weekend. It could be a do that works on 2 levels like the old heritage weekend. A run from RWB to LL and on to the the gathering venue for limited and specified numbers (which might be more favourable to JLR), and then a gathering for as many as want to turn up. Just a thought... |

One thing that has occurred to me, as someone who has organised a few Land Rover events, is the dreaded 'public liability insurance' issue!
Whenever I have run events, I have always had to obtain PLI cover. This can be expensive, and is something that needs to be considered. Obviously all participants in their own vehicles should have a minimum of 3rd party cover, but there is still a risk issue. Sadly we live in a very litigious society, where people are happy to sue for the slightest little thing - one way around this is getting people to sign disclaimers, but they need to be really watertight. Skip mentions other Land Rover 'clubs' organising events, but they should already have PLI cover in place to cover such activities. The danger here is that if individual people, or this forum organise the event, then they may be held liable for any unfortunate occurrences. I'm not trying to throw a spanner in the works, as I for one would like to take part in any event, but just wanted to put this up for 'organisers' to consider. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond..... |

Noted.
Something to look at when things get official, but as stated before, we are looking for an organisation to get involved (like JLR for example) that takes care of all those issues. We just are trying to create a platform and present it on a silver platter so to speak. We'll see how it all pans out. Worst case, we'll look into it ourselves and if clubs get involved, I'm sure they will help getting all legalities in order. Interest is picking up so I'm very possitive... |

WANTED:
I'm looking for a screenwide picture for a background of the tribute website. Preferably wide with a focus picture of a defender in a mid-side-top because: It needs to be wider then the actual webpage so it fills the screen on larger resolutions, but the Defender needs to still be within the webpage width. At one side so our logo can go on the other side. Top side as the content pages will cut into the image. A hige picture where I can cut out the usefull section will also be helpfull. An example to get the idea: Click image to enlarge |

Hi All
Just to add to zone30's request for a 'main picture'. It must be owned by one of us or be offered totally free of any copyright restrictions. Just an idea but maybe there is something already on here that could be used or from a similar 'shoot' that has not been uploaded. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic31412.html Let's see your scenic shots I remembered this from Eduardo...depending on what zone30 has in mind, even drop down menus etc wont cover or lose the Defender message... I also like the Convoy theme, anyway first thoughts... Click image to enlarge SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

regarding attendence:
i think setting a date and format, location etc is vital early on. Then a clear message can be circulated to get people in on it. You'll struggle to get many to 100% commit to a "we're thinking of maybe..." but i think all the signs so far are positive! At the very least this could be a defender2.net event although i suspect we could get many more! Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |
