I was wondering why a friend's Defender had a screw on filter while mine had a plastic bowl. Granted that his was a 2.2 and mine is a 2.4, question now becomes, do they have these screw on filters for the 2.4 as well?

No, all 2.4 and 2.2 up to vin DA444246 have the element filter LR030778.
The 2.2 from vin DA444247 have the canister filter LR058104. |

but, is the new filter bracket/cooler mountable on the "old" 2.2 and 2.4 ?
MC on line doesn't show the new version..... Thanks to BAS the P/Ns are Oil filter housing/oil cooler assembly From VIN DA444247 Quantity: 1 LR049474 Gutless thermostat Quantity: 1 LR029936 Thermostat (oil cooler) Quantity: 1 PEM100990 Thermostat Quantity: 1 PCF101530 I don't know if we need some new hoses........ I would prefer the "new" filter, easiest to change ...... any comments? if we can do, however, it is an expensive modification, more or less 350-400£ for the parts..... Make sense? As far as I can tell it may be. The ladder frame part of the block which the cooler bolts on to shows the same part no. for all 2.2s. However the block to filter/cooler gasket is different, as is the coolant hose to the cooler.

FYI, these are now available non-genuine, we use Mann filters across our fleet, W8027 is the Mann part number and they are half the price of LR or Ford. 5 Land Rovers and a Corsa!

It looks like that filter is new obsolete and has been replaced by W7050.
Still half the price of a LR filter. |
