today I fitted an LED work light to the rear, I mounted it on the number plate light spacer to avoid drilling holes in the body work. I used the permanant live purple and -ve black wire described earlier all good but a couple of questions
1/ Is there a plug available that will go straight into the LR socket, I've used 2 off male spades but would like a proper plug? 2/ I broke 2 of the metal trim clips holding the panel that covers the rear quarter windows, does anyone know the part number and where I can get some? 3/ I would also like some new trim fixings for the speaker housings again a part number and supplier would be great? 4/ which fuse feeds the purple wire? 5/ finally where is the best place to get some focal speakers to replace the LR ones thanks in advance DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

I am looking at adding a couple of working LED lights to the back, so i imagine i can connect them via a relay to these as well, as long as i have spare wires on my 02 plate 110 csw

you should not need a relay with LEDs as the current draw is low, on a puma these wires are protected by a 20 amp fuse DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Guess on your 2010 model you still found the purple wire? If so, suggest you check your fuses first, fuse 2 should be a 20 amp fuse to which this purple permanent live wire should be connected....

Thanks Eric,
Obvious questions but where do I find fuse 2 and what else does it protect? And if it's not the fuse what else could it be? Cheers. |

only a quick thing to watch while fitting a socket here is when I fitted mine the wires coming out of the tag when connected to socket rubbed on the back panel when speaker panel fitted fitted back in place . but I did use a standard cigar lighter socket which is bit longer then the auxciliy style socket .
the connector fitted to the wiring fits straight on to standard cigar socket . later on I fitted a aux style socket and its not such a issue but worth checking when you fit it back in place |

Under your driver seat. You will find a row of plug in fuses in various colors. Fuse 2 is for the towing electrics and the live purple wire. Easy to check if they are blown or not. My own (not so tidy) take on some rear 12v sockets.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge A bit of a lash up, although since fitting the window trims, there was no real other way of securing the switch and socket panels, without using cable ties. It was a fancy Halfords jobby I bought years ago, that was lying around. I hard wired it in to a fuse box. Whilst I know it is unlikely I would be able to use all 5 at once, without putting a lot of strain on the original cable, it was easier than buying a load more sockets. Plus it means I do have multiple. I estimate, I could probably realistically use three at a time under reasonable load. In total, I have 8 12v sockets, and one double USB socket too 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top |

Yes I did.
And it works a treat. Just gave it a good staring at for a while and then it all made sense. Thanks for all your help. |

I'm going to do this shortly but have a quick question about safety. What state does the system need to be in before starting work?
I'm assuming it's key out the ignition and (20A) fuse out the box -- will a connection here will draw current constantly? 2009 110 XS Station Wagon |

Yes, it's a permanent live unless you pull the fuse. Whether the key is in the ignition or not makes no difference.
In practice, the plug is reasonably well protected as it's just loose behind the trim panel. I didn't feel the need to even pull the fuse when I fitted my socket.
