As per Steve's recommendation, fully insulated female crimp terminals now installed. Also updated the pictures as such. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

The whole wire has not been deleted just the two way connector that goes "nowhere" has been removed from the loom the cable still continues from Fuse 2 under the seat through to the rear loom and terminates in the towing electrics connector in the rear wheel arch.

Instead of making the extension leads if you take a small screwdriver you can release the locking tab on the terminals within the white plug and remove them.
These are standard spade size so will fit straight onto the Sutars sockets such as http://www.mobilecentre.co.uk/index.php?ma...cts_id=699 and the Blue Sea twin USB http://www.mobilecentre.co.uk/index.php?ma...cts_id=653 The ones I have taken to pieces have the additional locking pin that locates in the small hole within the tab on the socket so they will not fall off unlike the standard crimps which are an interference fit and may shake loose. A piece of heat shrink over each terminal will insulate everything and save the need for extensions, crimps tools and terminals and be more secure |

A little bit off topic but I had to put a new 12N socket on yesterday so the easyist way was to take off the loom from behind the rear fog light panel. On that loom(2002my 110) were 3 extra wires, green/red ending in a Lucar for reverse light, purple ending in? Had fallen off probably another Lucar to the fog light circuit and another purple wire ending in a female bullet that was a seperate live feed.

Hello Tim, I am really interested in doing what Eric has done, but I have a MY2013 2.2 110 and was wondering if you could give me some additional guidance here as to where these two wires can be found and if they are purple and black like before. I would be very grateful for any support you can give. Thank you |

The purple and black wires ran along the loom to the tow bar socket with a T off for an aux power socket. This T was deleted on MY2012 so now the wires run to the tow bar socket so the only way you will be able to install the socket is by splicing into the OEM loom.

If you have a tow socket loom like on mine, genuine LR supplied in 2002, then the spare power wire breaks out of the taped up loom in a plain purple wire with a bullet connector on the end not far from the white block connector. You may be lucky and it may still be made in this fashion. I accessed mine from underneath, behind the plastic splash guard covering the rear light panel.

Td5 uses the same tow bar connector on the loom as Puma but not all the pin locations are used. The purple wire being one of them which is why it is left loose. On the Puma the purple wire terminates in the tow bar connector.

Thanks for the info, just ordered a few sockets to scatter about the vehicle.
One question though - those pesky trim clips/screws, before I get stuck in with my screwdriver or panel remover, how do these ones work, is it just a case of unscrewing the centre pin, removing it then popping the bit that's left with he panel popper? Or is there some other trick Thanks Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |

The purple wire branch to the white plug was deleted in 2012 on the 2.2 so this mod is not applicable to MY2012 or later
The purple wire is still there just runs in the rear loom to the tow bar socket and terminates and the connector in the wheel arch. |
