I had been looking for a 90 for a while. I have had Range Rovers, and a Disco but still wanted a 90/Defender, so when this one was offered to me I thought....why not?
In a way, I kind of wished I had bought another disco or RR, but then I would have still wanted a defender! It had 6 moths MOT, and was priced at £2999, I took it for a test drive and it seemed to drive ok, I had a good look round the chassis and spotted a couple of holes. Click image to enlarge Just to make sure, i got him to put it through another MOT, just to see what it threw up. The holes in the chassis were not a fail, but he welded them up anyway as they came up as an advisory, the top mount on the front shock was a fail, so that was replaced, it threw up a couple of other advisory issues, seat belts frayed, and other small items. But other than that, 12 months MOT. The previous owner had a "squabble" with an ex and it had some paint stripper poured over the side. So that will need to be sorted. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I have decided that I like the satin black look So thats what I am aiming for. First job was to check out the rear x member, as it had some suspicious looking checker plate Click image to enlarge All clean, so a coat of satin black to cover up any bare metal and result Click image to enlarge I will be taking it back to bare metal and giving it a proper paint job. I decided to start on the black paint job, this will not be a pro effort, It's a small budget project so the less I can spend the better. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Had a bit of a reaction I need to take back and re-do. Click image to enlarge I found a good set of checker plate on ebay, and that will be shot blasted and sprayed black. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I am still looking at a long list of jobs, but I will take them one day at a time It will make a good project I think. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Last edited by mymini007 on 14th Mar 2012 7:50am. Not bad at all, looks a lot better in black. Thats a lot of chequerplate for one vehicle though isn't it? I love the look of the NAS rear lamps, will you fit them to your 90? 2011 110 USW

Not sure yet, I may do, not all the checker plate will go in, I have fitted out the rear tub and am now having 2nd thoughts, so that my come out, I will leave the bulkhead in, and the wing and bonnet tops, and the sills, but I think I will leave it there. |

Doesn't sound too bad. I'm debating fitting NAS lamps myself, to be seen better on winter nights, but on the other hand I don't want to really modify the vehicle if I can help it...hmmm. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

Will need to check with the other half, but sounds good to me. Not too tricky I hope, only ever driven on site before. Not through tank tracks and bomb holes etc! |

Done a little more today before the rain set in, got the passenger side painted, well first coat anyway.
took the checker plate off of the rear arches, as I have decided to do something else there instead. Wired up a cd player ind took out the old discovery tape player. Photos to follow in the daylight! |
