Should be rolling by the weekend, Cool

The dash is in, all the 'lectrics now work. It starts and runs,

Just need some wheel spacers as the fronts are catching on full lock. Neutral

Having second thoughts on the black.

Saw a Tahiti blue one today, it looked a-may-zing!

Dont like the new wheels at all.

Its horrible to drive, it bounces and skips all over the place, this may not help, but it also has a wobble at about 40 mph (balance maybe) but compared to my old RR wheels and tyre combo these are horrid really does not feel safe over about 50 mph, used to be fine on the m'way good for 70 mph easy. what axle have you on the back - a standard defender one with drum brakes. If so - I'm not sure that the style of alloys from the Disco wheels that I thinks these are will sit square on the hub - hence the wobble worth checking that they are all sitting right on the hubs

I could be totally wrong and I'm sure others will be able to confirm.

On my old 90 which was an e plate - i had the axle swapped to one with disc brakes so I could get the alloys on -

I was running disco 1 alloys with insa turbo and it was steady up to 60 - above that and the chunky tyres it got a bit light Very Happy

I know it may sound silly but check the true pressures on the muds - they may be all over the place if they were used off road before. Defender 110 County SW

I have got drums on the back yes.

I will check both, unfortunately I have sold the old ones, so either way I will have to make do for now. Will check the tyre pressures when I get home.

To be fair, the wobble feels like its coming from the front as it shakes the steering wheel, once i get to 50 it seems to stop.

I will be fitting some 30mm spacers. as the fronts do catch a little on full lock, so this may sort the problem if the wheel is not sitting square.

Now the wiring has been completed, I have a few more bits to be getting on with.

List:- Laughing

Sort wheel wobble
Fix leaky rear drum
Replace hoses that are leaking for samco silicone blue.
30mm spacers for the wheels
New battery tray as mine is rotten (not sure how it got through the MOT)
Finish of black paint.
New rear door.
New door liners/cards (front)
Build tool box/speaker box
Fit rear seats
Sound proof rear van sides and roof.
Fit replacement seats with risers
Replace front bumper
Paint roof
Paint roof rack
Replace steering wheel
Repair Front doors
Thud
Replace front door hinges
Replace door seals all round
Fit side steps
Fit ladder to enable roof rack use
Fit swing away wheel carrier
Change door lock barrels so they are all the same.

And thats just quickly off the top of my head, I am sure there is more

Not sure what it is about this little truck, but despite all its issues, I really like driving it. Thumbs Up

You'd be far better and safer adjusting the lock stops - that's what they are there for.

Fitting spaacers may stop this - it will stop rubbing when on full circle, but it will also allow the alloy to sit true on the hub - Do you know anyone with spacers that can let you try before you commit to spending money?

I'd suggest a couple of things other checks

1. swap wheels around - mark them first - you may find that there is a badly buckled wheel or well out of balance - it is a pain but then you can at least narrow down if the issue is front or back/
2. Check the steering bar is straight and not bent - i had this happen in the past must have hit on a rock and it had a slight kink in it but it was enough to cause a few scary moments on the road at speed.
3. Any play in the track rod ends -

When were all the bushes last replaced - - its an relatively cheap and easy fix - worth doing if in any doubt -

There may be a combination of things causing the wobble

good luck and keep us posted - Very Happy Defender 110 County SW

Just been to get the wheels balanced, but left the locking key in the garage. Thud

But thats the first option. I was going to buy 2nd hand spacers from ebay and if it didn't work I can just sell em on again.

Bushes are on the list too now then Shocked I had planned that anyway Very Happy

Its only done about 100 miles since the MOT so I hope the TRE would be ok but a worthwhile check I thinkg

I am pretty sure its a wheel issue as i had no problems prior to switching the wheels over.

Thanks for the tips Thumbs Up

Just had a look at the stop lock nut, or not as the case may be totally caked in crap, I would say 26 years worth by the looks of things.

Whats the best way to clean them off, Jet wash and gunk?

Sort wheel wobble
Fix leaky rear drum
Clean up swivel joints and replace seals if required
Replace hoses that are leaking for samco silicone blue.
30mm spacers for the wheels
New battery tray as mine is rotten (not sure how it got through the MOT)
Finish of black paint.
New rear door.
New door liners/cards (front)
Build tool box/speaker box
Fit rear seats
Sound proof rear van sides and roof.
Fit replacement seats with risers
Replace front bumper
Paint roof
Paint roof rack
Replace steering wheel
Repair Front doors
Replace front door hinges
Replace door seals all round
Fit side steps
Fit ladder to enable roof rack use
Fit swing away wheel carrier
Change door lock barrels so they are all the same.
