Having just fitted an Ashcroft output shaft, here are my statistics.
1, vehicle year of manufacture - 2014 2, engine type 2.4 or 2.2, - 2.2 3, is the Defender still running with the original output shaft? (Y/N) - N 4, vehicle mileage - Shaft not failed, but changed due to hearing an occasional feint knock when taking up drive at 32000 miles 5, Has an Ashcroft modified part has been fitted? (Y/N) - Y 6, vehicle mileage at the second failure, or mileage if still running. Literally just fitted the new shaft The noise was minimal, but the difference after fitting the new shaft, has made an massive improvement with drivetrain slack (didn't realise how much I had). Yes, it's a 110 in Corris Grey? (Did you mean the colour of my 110??) Or the colour of the Ashcroft uprated output shaft kit anodised sealing cup, which is red.

1. 90 2015my
2. 2.2 3. Yes 4. 62k miles still running, replaced while replacing the clutch. It shows some signs or wear but was greased at 30k miles When the TBox was removed Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge When refitting the cup to the gearbox out put shaft should you apply a locktite to the splines As when it was removed it appeared to have been loctited from factory? All I can find in the LR Workshop manual on fitting the cup is pre heating it to 100C before fitting? |

AFAIK loctite is applied to the thread. It needs heating to expand a bit so you can fit it to the gearbox output shaft. And, yes sooner than later your output shaft coupling will wear out. Puma 110" SW

I was tempted to take that route, but it was a scary to drill a hole into the extension case and possibly developing a crack. Puma 110" SW

Well just drilled a 14mm hole in the extension case and
I suppose I will find out in due course, and I do have a spare just in case. |
