Yes, that’s the plan, bought the whole conversion kit so I’m hoping it will be fairly straightforward! 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0 1972 VW Beetle 1200 2002 Dax Rush 3.9 V8 2012 Audi A3 tdi 2020 Renault Kangoo electric |

Not sure if there’s is a bmw manual option, I’m staying with the r380 initially and sees how it bears up. Heard various opinions that it will last/ won’t last, so time will tell 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0 1972 VW Beetle 1200 2002 Dax Rush 3.9 V8 2012 Audi A3 tdi 2020 Renault Kangoo electric |

That will be a good test with the R380 behind it and in the real world you will be able to find out yourself 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Finally got round to start the strip down, ready for the new engine. Hopefully will pull the engine out over the weekend, then spend a bit of time tidying the engine bay up
Click image to enlarge Also started to fit the electronic accelerator pedal, I thought my luck was in when I looked at the mounting holes -they looked the same, should be an easy swap. But no it was a few mm difference so I ended up elongating the holes in the bulkhead and adding a plate on the engine side of the bulkhead to avoid any stress cracking . Click image to enlarge Had the loom out to weigh up how it would fit in the engine bay, looking at other m57 conversion it seems the ecu locates on the bulkhead. Managed to pull the old engine out today before the rain came. Will the help of my dad it was fairly straightforward. Undoing the engine mounts was the only awkward part.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I was considering keeping it , however I don’t think I will have the room ( too much clutter as it is!) so at some put I will put it for sale along with all the other bits and pieces I took ff as part of the conversion. Next thing was to start to clean up the engine bay, prior to altering the loom etc. I also fitted the spacer plate/ rear part of bell housing to the gearbox. Great move forward there with the engine out now and then a big tidy up in the engine bay, but from the pic, it doesn't look to bad 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Thanks Clayton, the engine bay isn’t too bad I suppose, however the heater unit, servo etc could do with a lick of pain, along with some parts of the wiring loom that could do with tidying up.l 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

After spending a bit of time of the engine, working out which wires of the old loom were not needed the next stage was to drop the replacement engine in.
Surprisingly it was straightforward enough, no issues if anything it was easier than taking the tdi unit out. Next stage is to get it wired/ plumbed up. Think I might have to make some brackets etc for the td5 rad, also need to decide where to mount the ecu Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0 1972 VW Beetle 1200 2002 Dax Rush 3.9 V8 2012 Audi A3 tdi 2020 Renault Kangoo electric Last edited by lb73 on 1st Jun 2021 8:45pm.
