A second 110 on the drive - 300tdi csw BMW powered!
After looking for a while, I managed to pick up this T reg 300tdi on Saturday for a reasonable price Very Happy .Been scouring eBay etc, even more so after learning that my 57 works 110 was being replaced in 2018 by a Isuzu d max Confused
After getting it back on the drive I've drawn up a lists of jobs including a proper cavity wax/ under seal, and a good clean inside with possible some new carpets. Also might need a new cross member under the rear tub and a couple of ali repair panels, but a least the chassis is solid along with the bulkhead.Mechanically italso seems ok engine seems happy enough, though the gears seems pretty close together so not sure if it's me being used to the newer 6speed or whether or not the gearbox needs some adjustment.
Body wise it's pretty good no major dents, a bit of oxidation on the door edges plus a nasty scratch on the n/s doors
I also need to find out what make the roll cage is, as for some reason it's missing the lower sections that attach to the chassis, so at the moment it's not offering much protection. Plus I need to get a proper front bumper as the one on it does do much for me. Anyway here's a few poor quality phone pictures

Very clean Thumbs Up

300Tdi gears will be shorter, if the engines in good running order and you don't mind losing a bit of acceleration then a 1.2 transfer box from a Disco does wonders for motorway cruising. Does make 1st a bit tall though. I've done it to mine and well worth it, although given I do a fair bit of towing I'm contemplating reducing it again or going VNT.

I've also got a standard bumper in the garden in you're interested? Swapped for a winch bumper. Will be up in Shropshire on Thursday but disappearing fast to the Highlands in the 322. Back on Monday and will have a bit more spare time then so could bring it up. Ed

Thanks for the offer Thumbs Up - pm me a price cheers. I had given thought to the discovery transfer box so that might go the too do list, though regard the gears being close together I've found it's the actually selection of them it's very little difference between the position of 1st and 3rd.

Cheers, not too sure if it's had a refurb or not, though it does want a really got t cut and polish. I think a previous owner had access to parts from a tdci as that are where the seats are from ( being heated) along with the headlights. I also think the roll cage has come from another vechicle as it's missing the chassis brackets.

Just looks in really god nick from the photos. Wondered if it had been rebuilt with a respray?

Glad you're changing the bumper!!

How is it going from a Puma to a 300tdi? Seem under powered? James

The photos although poor make it look better than it is, I think it's the orginal paint rather than a respray, however over time I think a respray will be on the cards for at least the back door and the n/s doors. Will try and take some more photos over the weekend.

To be fair I was pretty pleased how the 300tdi engine drove to compared to my later tdci, although noisy ( which in part down to the lack of carpets etc) it pulled somewhat the same - though in fairness to the tdci it is pretty loaded up with gear - around the 2500kg last time it was weighed.
Can't wait to get stuck in to sorting it out - making wish lists already.

Anyway over the last week I started removing the interior for cleaning and to see what state the aluminium panels are in. Took the seats out ( which I thiink are from a tdci and heated Very Happy )
After a good hoover out and the removal of the carpet and Ali chequer plate liner in the rear I was left with this

So I think I'll replace the rear tub floor with a new piece, along with the corner sections of the seats base/ seatbelt mounts. With the inner wheel arch section I was contemplating adding ali sheet underneath attaching it to the strengthening members, whilst adding another Ali sheet section on top inside. As well as riveting was thinking of bonding them also.

I've also been cleaning the chassis off ready for the dintrol, plus I haven't found no serious rot apart from the middle cross member which I already knew about - so might get the yrm one. Another job done was the removal of the tank off to paint plus it gives better access to put the rust treatment on.
