It seems pretty clear cut to me, to be honest.

I'm not a big fan of the look of most LED headlights so I'm holding off for the time being. Of course, a few days with halogens again may change my mind Laughing Darren

For me when it said original units it means oem, it’s open to interpretation. For me the landy has a practical over looks thing, however i agree with you on the led look thing, it’s why i opted for the truck lites as they weren’t to obvious with no massive projector lense

I hope you tucked them away somewhere safe, for when you need to pull them out again.

I'm not certain whether the law/MoT handbook will ever be amended; but wonder what will happen when halogen bulbs are phased out like 240v incandescent.?

Following the collection of a large chip (I think acorn related!) and impending MOT, I had a new windscreen fitted this morning. No pictures unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions in the workshop. Still, I was pleased to see that the replacement is a Pilkington unit.

Notwithstanding the chip, a new windscreen is a lovely thing as they're sooo clear Laughing

That is a seriously hardcore Acorn. Monsieur Le Grenadier

It could have been a conker or something similar Laughing It definitely fell out of a tree and made bang when it hit!

Blimey, that really is a 'glass half empty' view Neutral Darren

I'm pretty confident that any interpretation would come down in favour of the spirit of the law and swapping your OEM Quadoptics for Crystals or similar wouldn't be a get out of jail free card. Darren

Hi Darren,

I was reading through your (fantastic) thread and wondered where you got to with your reversing camera and JVC head unit, sorry if I missed it. Are you happy with the screen size for the camera.

I am thinking what to do in my 110XS and trying to keep as original as possible.

Have had a good search through the forums and so many different options. Much appreciated and advice you can share.

Cheers

James.

Thanks James.

I haven't actually installed the camera yet (cameras really, as there will be two of them) but I've tested it and it's pretty good. Certainly adequate for reversing. Darren

‘Adequate for reversing’. What else do you have planned for them? (I count trailer-hitching as ‘reversing’). Monsieur Le Grenadier

It was more a comment on the screen - you wouldn't want to watch block buster movies on it but it's adequate for reversing.

As for the cameras, there'll be one high and central for a general view and one lower down, probably on the number plate plinth, pointing at the tow hitch. Darren

I’ve got the complex-reflector Wipacs in a few things - with decent bulbs, they’re not bad at all. Even better wired direct (with a relay). Without opening a can of worms, it seems the LED bulb in a halogen reflector thing can give a perception that they’re better than they really are, because you’re getting a much brighter, whiter light right in front of you that doesn’t necessarily extend as far as it should.

Definitely an opening for a more traditional-looking full LED headlight (or, at least, they’d sell a few pairs to me).

In my case, the LED bulbs were fitted to Wipac Crystals as are the new halogen bulbs mentioned above. Having been out in the dark tonight, I can confidently say that the LED bulbs were better. Shame really. Darren

The LEDs are substantially better than even the fancy H4 bulbs on an engineered harness. Beam pattern passes the MOT, so the only reason for banning is a blanket prohibition of non-TA lighting, the beam test proves that in our applications they don't dazzle.

A shame, really.
