Smart work as usual

They're fantastic - our L322 has one and that's what convinced me I needed on on the 90

Progress has been made on the webasto install today. Unfortunately the electronics haven't arrived so things like remote phone control and the in dash controller aren't going to happen this weekend.
So far I've plumbed it into the coolant circuit (priority to cabin heat) and wired in power with connectors supplied by Martin ![]() The passenger side of the engine bay is now looking rather full! ![]() Click image to enlarge Tomorrow I'll drop the fuel tank and fit the feed pipe and fuel pump. All that will be left after that is the controller and exhaust ![]() 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton Last edited by grafty99 on 5th Dec 2020 10:27pm. The Webasto is now fully installed and finished!
There are currently 4 ways it can operate. 1) Start the engine and the Webasto turns on until the coolant reaches 85°C. After this it enters standby mode and if the coolant temperature drops below 75°C (if sitting in traffic with the heater going for example) then it will fire back up until the coolant reaches 85°C again (not ideal I know, as the thermostat starts to open at 82°C but this will only be a problem in the traffic scenario which is a rare occurrence for me) 2) I've installed a temporary button in the centre dash to operate the Webasto if you were sat in the defender waiting for someone for example and got a bit cold. It would give you a 20 minute shot of heat then turn off - round button above stereo). ![]() Click image to enlarge 3) Call the GSM relay from a mobile - the relay hangs up immediately and activates the Webasto for 20 minutes. Perfect if you were out for dinner for example and the defender was parked a 5 minute walk away from the restaurant. Call the GSM relay after you ask for the bill and return to a toasty cabin ![]() 4) I have installed a hidden winter/summer/service switch that deactivates the webasto completely but leaves the GSM relay to control the cabin fans. This way on a hot day I can call the defender and it will start the fresh air fan to cool the interior for 20 minutes before you get in ![]() There are some refinements I'm considering but all it all it works a treat ![]() 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton Last edited by grafty99 on 31st Dec 2020 9:27am. A remote start Webasto is fantastic. Many years ago I had one fitted to a 300tdi Discovery with the Telestart option, which was a quite large key fob that had a range of about 100m. It was great to be able to sit in my, at the time, fourth floor office and fire it up although it did startle a few people as it sounded like a small jet engine

Thanks chaps!
![]() Mine has a silencer so is actually quite quiet, although for the first test run I did on the bench it didn't have the silencer on and, like you say, sounded like a small jet starting up ![]() 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Thanks Martin, the connectors you supplied made the job 100x easier that's for sure! Unfortunately, as you predicted, pin 8 isn't configured on D3/4 heaters

Very nice work!!
Have you had any issues thus far with the fans setting your alarm off? I found with my derv fan heater it 70% sets the alarm off, likely due to the volumetric sensor going off. Instagram @defender_ventures Empire Tuning - Agent |

It hasn't yet, you can adjust the gain on the volumetric sensor in the nanocom, might be worth turning it down a touch
