the transition between series 3 and the 90/110 was evolution; what they are showing us from defender to dc100 is revolution - well revolting at the very least.

just to play devils avocate....
if the vehicle in the picture was on sale with all the spec of a current 90 xs for £21k and did the same towing and off road ability of a current 90 but returned 40 mpg..... would you buy one? |

Desperately hope the design director is correct about it being a four year journey in design before it hits production, and that four year journey involves entirely changing what it looks like. Unless it's really cheap, a Discovery 4 (5 by then) Commercial would seem the obvious answer. (No, that isn't already the obvious answer before anyone says it).

They could of atleast put the door hinges on the outside or even have some rivets on show to make it have something in common with a defender

Also how do you explain lorries? Personal opinion - "pedestrian safety requirements" is an excuse being used by Landrover to kill off the Defender as we know it. If these rules and regs are so tight, how the heck can MAN for example built a lorry with a front that is basically a twelve foot tall metal wall. Its bloody superb! Given the very little change from LRX concept to Evoque I would lay good money on the fact that this is pretty damm close to whats coming. Im serious by the way, I love it. |

If it follows normal practice then there is still 2 years before a design freeze on it, so hope for some detail changes. However unless there is a totally different design being worked on then I suspect that this 'concept' has the overall architecture sorted. Hopefully they'll tinker with the front , add some 'heritage' features like alpine roof lights etc... Otherwise it's got a wheel at each corner, has the same look at the rear as a disco , got the spare on the back and erm well not much else to say. Wheels and brakes are usual concept fare and the nice photoshop on 'location' tells us nothing really.
So no idea of body styles - just because it shows a 3 dr doesn't mean there will be one , power trains, suspension etc just inter web speculation. One thing though. I've taken on a chap who worked on the finance side of the disco/ffrs/defender programme. He says it was only because the 'new' chassis they developed couldn't ultimately cope with the necessary body style variations the defender needed, that the defender was set aside and carried on in it's own evolutionary dead end to the puma we have today. So I suppose we're lucky this product has lasted so long. IF they can develop something that can cater for utilitarian/working car and a 'comfort' spec then it might work. But the fix it in the barn Defender is dead, legislation fixed that. Still back to tricky decisions ...... Zu or Mach 5..just can't decide. Stu |

I wonder if this has been "leaked" (remember we were supposed to find out at the Frankfurt show) just to get a reaction. Landrover are probably reading all the forums now seeing what the response is. The real vehicle may be not so radical, and we will all be thankful it wasn't as bad as it could have been... 2011 110 USW

Can you see dictators being chased out of countries with aD100 equiped with machine guns ? No nor can I , in fact rebels dont even use current rovers , because Land Rover is out of touch with the utility markets , the very market that created Land Rover !!!! In the Australasian markets a defender is a joke , Toyota sells 10000 to one , a D100 will continue that trend ! Tata

I was just thinking the same, If I were Landrover I would.
What they should do is invite a random group of possible customers/enthusiasts etc and have a brain storming day? Other industries do this, some good thing come out too. A lot of these engineers / designerds are not as clever as they think they are. Steve lol. desingnerds was a typo |
