Looks OK from the side, and I bet it'll look good in LWB form.

When they delete the Discovery from the line up, I'd buy one Thumbs Up

Wales 2012 Defender 90 Other SW Keswick Green
Defenders are absolutely senior fit for purpose, but who designed that beatnik? Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

It doesn't look so bad from the side, but from the front, it looks awful. Like someone else said, like a Yeti.

I don't see it being used as a workhorse either, not with that poncy styling etc.

Whatever this is, and if its real I'm sure its well designed etc, it is NOT a Defender replacement. 2011 110 USW

Land Rover seem to have missed a golden opportunity here - both BMW with the mini and VW with the Beetle took iconic cars and brought them up to date whilst still creating something that owners could recognise from the past - come on Land Rover you can do better than this!

United Kingdom 2005 Defender 110 Td5 DCPU Bonatti Grey
Thought about this overnight.

Opening bank account today with sole purpose of buying a 2014 90 & 2014 110DCPU, as the last of the breed, before this monstrocity DC100 takes over.

One thing is pretty much certain - they will not go DOWN in value. 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey

I don't know what some you are whining on about Rolling Eyes ...it's got 4 wheels Shocked ... it has to have a sloping and more rounded front for ped safety and aerodynamics.... illogical judgements about what it can or can't carry without any idea of the specs Thud It's likely to have all the body variants of the current range so I don't see why it can't carry a bale of hay Rolling Eyes It will have a revised version of the T5 platform so it will be strong, extremely capable off road and no doubt far more comfortable than the present awkward off-set "elbow in the window" driving position.

With current defender sales barely breaking 25k units pa they have to produce something which is going to appeal to a wider audience otherwise they might as not well build the thing at all.

If this is an early incarnation of the final model then ....I like it Cool

Get with it chaps ...time to take off those wooly underpants and shave those beards Very Happy Wink

I can see Cumbrian farmers queueing up to buy one of those Shocked

Looks like the D4 just became the most utility-biased vehicle in the LR range Big Cry

To be fair to LR though, they have an impossible task. How do you please a) emergency services/farmers who want a no-frills utility truck, b) beardy enthusiasts who want a capable off-road Meccano vehicle, and c) the Alderley Edge set who like the fashionable side of the Defender.

Funnily enough, it's group c) who are holding the most dosh, so they've gone after that (with the looks anyway). However I'd argue they already have the Evoque as a pretend off-roader...

Let's not get too carried away though... whilst the Evoque ended up looking a lot like the LRX concept, there's no guarantee the same will happen here, as the quote in the BBC article implies. As for the massive wheels etc, concept cars are always a caricature.

Mind you, if that does end up being the replacement, I think it'll be time to buy shares in Jeep and Waxoyl Crying or Very sad

Back to the drawing board please. People say the Defender is one of the coolest cars because it has individual styling and presence. This as already said is like an enlarged Mini Sad Can you imagine going to war in that, the enemy would laugh you off the front line. Can you imagine turning up to market in it, you be laughed out of the gate. Even the bloody cows would laugh at you for trying to shovel Censored in the back Thud

LR already have the ghastly gaylander and Chelsea tractor, this is just going to compete with them, it's just another car. If there is no longer a commercial market for the Defender then I would rather it's rests in peace as it is than put a Defender badge on that thing and let it ruin the name Rolling Eyes

Think outside the box boys, old styling can look cool. Think of the airstream as opposed to a white plastic blob - you just need to apply yourself or get someone in slightly left of field that can design something uniquely interesting, practical, versatile and ageless. Work on one of the greatest designs you already have that is recognisable the world over - don't make it into a Rav 4 Big Cry
