It doesn't look so bad from the side, but from the front, it looks awful. Like someone else said, like a Yeti.

I don't see it being used as a workhorse either, not with that poncy styling etc.

Spot on. They will sell 1000's in the US. School run Mum's will love it. It will make £100,000,000's for LR execs.

Will anyone on this forum buy one? Yes, most likely.... when they replace their Freelander or Disco..... as for replacing a Defender with this concept..... I think not. Will LR execs be bothered..... I think not.

For those that need a new commercial 4x4, VW, Toyota and Mitsubishi will be happy to take your order. Paul

It's just another regular, characterless 4x4(?) ... Like every other Jap 4x4 ... Lost it's identity!

The Wrangler is much nicer than that ....

Like someone said ... that looks like a Skoda Yeti !! Big Cry Regards

What ...you mean those round fronted, sloping windscreen, aerodynamic, modern looking VW, Toyota and Mitsubishi's ...as opposed to a round fronted, sloping windscreen, aerodynamic, modern looking Defender ? Confused

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: why on earth would Land Rover not just look at the Wrangler? It's been completely modernised, yet it's immediately recognisable as what it is. This new thing? Absolutely not. It also looks like it will be missing the one really important thing about the Defender: the ability to easily maintain and modify it.

The Defender is an icon, so I can't see the sense in throwing all of that out. There are loads of people in the US who would love to buy one, but can't right now. So take design queues from the Defender, change what has to be changed, and keep the "hard as nails" and versatility of the original. The job really isn't *that* difficult.

And to those who say there isn't a market for a utility 4x4: how come all the other major manufacturers have vehicles in that section? Land Rover has lost market to them, mostly through a reputation of bad reliability.

Totally agree...If that goes into production, I'll be keeping my 90 and looking for a nice new wrangler. http://projectd90.blogspot.com/ - a work in progress.

Time to pre-order a 64-plate final edition county hardtop and get it thoroughly rustproofed!

the replacement for the defender should be stronger , faster , bigger and not compete with the mainstream tritons , rangers and hi lux"s . Defender 2 should be a no nonsense 6 and 8 cylinder cruiser and patrol size vehicle to be competitive in the Arabian , african , US , Indian Asian and australasian markets . This is a smaller volumn market but has more potentiall to re establishing Land Rover as a brand and utility vehicle manufacturer , apealling to commercial operators , farmers , mining companies and consumers requiring a tow vehicle . I can not believe they have got it so wrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big Cry

And how much is that going to cost to replace everytime something breaks on the bodywork everytime it goes green laning!!!!!!!

Think of all the punctures with those wheels!

There's no doubt that if it is the design for the new un' it's not aimed at the traditional market, which may be small, but that 25k units WILL go elsewhere. And I'm one of them, although perhaps not all that "traditional".

"Land Rover insists its next Defender will be a rugged workhorse, having ruled out moving it upmarket as a luxurious car that simply looks butch on the outside," says BBC business reporter Jorn Madslien.

So that is a "rugged workhorse"?

At least the DC100 "isn't a production-ready concept but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century" according to Land Rover's director of design, Gerry McGovern.
