I couldn't agree more McGovern is an absolute Muppet. The Defender is a Utility Vehicle NOT an SUV and that's the principal on which Land Rover was designed and built but McGovern doesn't understand that and has absolutely no regard for Land Rovers heritage and original design criteria. The only compromise made on the new Defender towards utility is the commercial short wheelbase, there wont be any pick-up's or chassis cabs built. |

I think the angle they are going for is that Grenadier is radical in the context of what other marques (specifically JLR) are doing with 4x4s. The trend everywhere else is for softer more leisure orientated vehicles. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

If Billy Milne is a target customer, with his Ranger Wildtrack 3.2 and hardtop then it won't be less than £40K (incl. VAT) will it? I'd expect it to command a premium over a DCPU though. |

I found the drawings below that show the standard arms on the latest Wrangler JL to be between 17 7/16" and 24" long.
The Grenadier seems to be around that or maybe a bit longer, so it should be at least as good as a modern Wrangler. Don't confuse the old long defender arms with a 4 link system. I like the suspension concept a lot - big chunky engineering, using proven principles, and everything underneath looks like it would survive being beached and dragged off. The chap being interviewed is saying exactly what you want to hear in the way of design principles and the thing is clearly built from the bottom engineering up rather than from the top design down which seems to be Land Rover's approach these days. It's everything I didn't see under the new Defender.
The only thing I see in the video that I don't like is the location of the radiator at the front, which you can also see behind a front bash plate in one of the vehicles being driven. It's too low, the bottom of it is below the wheel centreline, and the bottom of the radiator will fill up with mud even if it is protected from impact, wading through muddy water repeatedly will end up with a brick where the radiator used to be. Hopefully that's just something that comes out of fitting it into the mule body and won't be the final location. I don't suppose any of the vehicles being driven at this stage are finished designs, though they may be hybrids designed to test specific parts of the design. I really wouldn't set much store be thing you see being driven.

TBH I’m getting more excited about the impending Grenadier release (2021 I believe) than I ever was regarding the new Defender. Unfortunately I cannot see it being much cheaper though. I’ll just have to crack on with the lottery.

Even if the price is similar to new defender, on the one side you have a (hopefully) rugged modular vehicle build by engineers with HD components and on the other - plastic bomber SUV created by arrogant people. Defender 110 SW MY2011 2.4tdci decat, no EGR

Diduan, I agree with most of your sentiments except the last word: people. I'd like to suggest that most of the employees at JLR are very nice people only doing their best. But I agree we cannot say that of the egomaniac Demi-God running the show. Semantics, I know, but we don't want to be too unfair on the hard working girls and boys at JLR do we? Monsieur Le Grenadier
