I sincerely hope so as I believe following this pandemic and the effects on emissions and pollution during that time, there will be much greater emphasis on promoting EV and tax penalising of petrol/diesel vehicles.

For $38m or in today’s money, approx $250m. Whilst I am amazed by Man’s achievements in space, and understand the need to keep exploring, there has been so much wastage over the world’s various space programmes. $250m to travel 30km at 11kmh and to achieve what? Not sure anything was actually learnt from sending it up there that couldn’t be modelled on earth. Perhaps how a wheeled vehicle acts in low gravity? Perhaps that’s useful for Mars rovers and future missions? Perhaps there was some battery technology we’re using now (although surely that would also be in the modules)? Perhaps it developed super-strong lightweight alloys? Perhaps perhaps perhaps. That’s a lot of ‘perhaps’ in lieu of a lot food/clean water/housing/schooling/agricultural development in some parts of the world. Space-Race egos Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

What a contrast to the marketing waffle and flannel that preceded the new Defender launch.

Portal axles ~ "that's not what we're doing at launch", seems to give wriggle room to introduce as an optional extra later on Diff locks ~ one in each axle available as optional extras Engines ~ BMW 6 cylinder petrol and diesel. I thought we knew this already? Possibly no more update videos until lockdown ends? Although, this could be in Germany/Austria rather than UK? |

They also left wriggle room for other engine options. I suspect that may mean 4 cylinder mild hybrids in the not too distant future.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the stated payload for each axle? 300 and something kg for the front, and 900 and something kg for the rear. How does that compare to a 110 and a 130? It may equate to a true useable available overall payload of over a tonne. You would think that figure would be dependant on body style, so maybe only one at launch. I’d be willing to bet the launch body style will be a station wagon in the spirit of Defender 110. Although Mark did mention a tipper, but he may just be guessing like us. The question around stub axles was aimed squarely at a short coming in the 70 series Land Cruiser. The stub axles are welded to the axle so can’t be replaced if they get damaged on those. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

Agreed. Obviously the whole thing is basically an advert for the vehicle, and everything he said would have been carefully managed - but at least he managed to sound like a normal human being and was engaging and interesting. And no cravat or 'premium verticality' in sight |
