Today I took a blow torch my hub nuts and replaced them with nice SS ones, then took my car to have the steel wheels powder coated. My plan was to paint the hubs before this but my factory LR jack packed in on its first ever use last night so ran out of time today.

I took the 110 to a bodyshop in Redditch to have the little 'bump in Bremen' sorted out, then drove the 90 to St Albans - I was just about to set off and a delivery driver turned up with the new air filter valve / bung so I fitted that. The old one was perished - and absolutely disgusting - a thick coating of oil / grime on it. I checked the air filter I fitted a week or so back and its fine so I assume the grime on the valve was from historical leakage!
The engine has started dripping a little bit of oil again, so more investigations needed. The gift that keeps on giving. |

Stainless Steel isn't really suitable for holding the drive flanges on. They've got to be high tensile, 10.8 I think. |

Are they stainless or BZP?
As far as I can see from zooming in, they seem to be head-stamped 10-9 in which case they are ideal. (The normal grade for a hex socket head capscrew is 10.9, which is the correct spec for the drive flange bolts). |

They are A4-80 which I thought suitable for this task? Please tell me this doesn't mean I need to get the blow torch out again for the copious amount of threadlocker I used yesterday! |

Yesterday extended the control panel wires using thinwall 7 core trailer wiring.
Today i got the fuel line ran from the engine bay to the heater and attached the inlet pipe and exhaust. Air intake i think i am happy with, not 100% sure yet on the exhaust routing. Click image to enlarge 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

In that case I'd replace them as soon as possible with grade 10.9 or higher HT bolts. There are two major problems with A4-80 in this application; firstly they lack the tensile strength and ductility of the originals, meaning they are far more likely to shear, and secondly unless you used an anti-seize paste such as Weicon they are likely to cold weld themselves into the hub. Neither eventuality is good. Worst case may be that you already cannot remove them, I'm afraid. I have before now had an A4 screw weld itself into a nut before it was even tight. Horrible things, stainless fasteners! Personally I avoid them like the plague unless essential, and then use copious amounts of Weicon. |

Went up The Peaks.
The early One Ten was utterly ‘my bag’. Surprisingly HOT, but very little traffic, on 4 & 2 wheels, as well as 2 feet and 4 hooves! The L200 was driven by a girl who’d NEVER been off-road before..... she is now a ‘vet” at it. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

That's a nice straight-looking early One Ten slidey-window hard top.
Not so many Y platers still around, can you tell us any more about it Greeni? I guess from the vent in the wing that it's been Tdi'd, has the owner kept the original engine? |

Yeah it has a 200 in it. On a galvo too!
Not sure about the og engine. I LOVED it, but what was most impressive, it’s the first vehicle he”s ever bought. I hope he never sells it. He was 3 up across the front seats, with missus and teen (i think) daughter! Not all heroes wear capes. |
