If you are so confident in your product why dont you put a free replacement and fitting offer on your product if it fails withon a fixed ? milage?I personally think most would pay the extra for peace of mind! |

Just bloody great....
First day away for the holidays and the feckkin output shaft has blown again, for the 3rd time since 2012. Stuck by the side of the road with the kids and dog in Aviemore. Ooooooh the Big output shaft debate.
First 2 were replaced by the stealers so I’m part of the debate now. No shortage of opinions on which is now best, Ashcroft with its 3000 happy modified customers or Luke at LOF clutches saying that all his cars and customers are using the genuine LR uprated shaft. Well, I spoke to Luke at LOF today , awesome customer care and great advice. I’d better get my finger outa my backside and get an order in ASAP. I’ll keep you updated. Keith |

I've not read all of this topic yet - I will do but I think I have the solution!!
do away with the adapter shaft and replace it with a rubber tube with a jubilee clip either end - this will obviously over come and issues re; tolerance ps obviously it would need to be quite strong. stronger than a mc donalds milkshake straw for example and for those of you thinking that's a pants idea it may just be better than JLR's solution joking aside very interesting - thank you. Keith, really sorry to hear of you bad luck re the shaft. hope you can some how salvage the holiday. |

What is different about the "upgraded" genuine shaft?
I don't think JLR has ever changed the design of this part, the only difference was the addition of a sacher of lube. |

Not sure what’s more intriguing - the fact that Land Rover were able to bodge the fitting of the gearbox so spectacularly in the first place, or that people even consider not fitting the Ashcroft kit after they’ve gone to the trouble of fixing the bodge.

I no longer have the Defender, but if I did and the output shaft failed, I would definitely fit the Ashcroft solution.
If, as suspected, the issue is caused by poor alignment, then surely any solution which relies on a one time application of grease is only going to prolong the time between failures. Won't the grease dry out/get pushed out over time? The time/hassle/cost of getting the box out to replace the shaft would more than offset the extra cost of the Ashcroft kit in my opinion. |

Re, Genuine Uprated shafts. - if there is such a thing, or if it is just a dab of lube paste.
Does anyone know when this fix was introduced? It certainly doesn't fix the problem completely. Our forum survey has had replies with failures of shafts with the blue paste. There is also a high number of 2015 models that have failed. Personally, I wouldn't take the risk with a Landrover part, if it has gone once it will go again at similar milage. Keith, sorry to hear of your troubles, and multiple failures. Can you confirm the milage when each failure occurred please. I'm sure it will be a repeating pattern. Thanks. |
