This evenings' job was to fit a set of 'deluxe' grab handles. These have been salvaged from my 90 and were given a clean up and a fresh coat of paint.
Because the later chassis of my 110 is inset under the rear body, they required some spacers, which I made from 12mm thick engineering nylon. The holes are deliberately off-centre to suit the different ends of the handles, although they're out of order in the picture. To them were added a set of stainless bolts, some nylon washers to isolate them from the handles and some threaded plates to fit inside the rear cross member: ![]() Click image to enlarge When assembled, they look like this (and yes, I did line all the bolts up ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge I've always really liked these handles, which date from the Series Land Rover era. This will be the fourth vehicle I've had a set fitted to, beginning with my Stage 1 nearly twenty years ago ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? I agree, completely. I was looking around at wheel carriers the other day, trying to spot one that would allow me to keep the grab handle.
The stage 1 was my absolute pride and joy at the time and even served as my wedding car. Apart from the paint job and wheels, it had parabolic springs, de-restricted carbs, aluminium door tops, a 'Defender' rear door and a whole host of other bits and pieces. It had to go in the end though, as the fuel consumption was truly awful ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Yes. The guy that I sold it to in 2001 still owns it and I bumped into him at Dunsfold a couple of years ago. It was a bit sad to see though, unfortunately. He'd used and abused it and it was dented, rusty and no longer shiny. I nearly cried

it is sad when things go like that, My old DTurbo 306, I part exd for the HDI ended coming back to sunderland, with in two weeks after i parted company with it, my pal said that he saw the car, and i didn't believe him, until i clocked the car at work! It went from its original diablo red, to a MG yellow with a very bad body kit fitted! It was then passed to one of the lads at works mate. He said my mate spent a few quid on it, and i said it needed it when i had it, when i had it, hence why i got shot! ( it should have been scrapped, due to the fact the roof was well badly rotten, and caked full of filler) It ended up going down Wigan, when it last appeared on ebay for the very last time, looking very, very tatty. It was one of the lads on the forum that clocked the car, and posted up the link to me. Car was adverted for 250 quid, never sold and i think it ended up been a tin of beans. I looked up the history of it when i saw it for sale, before it made its way to wigan. I did right to get rid when i did, as it must have turned into a really bad egg, Engine was replaced not long after i got shot, and it never went through an MOT smoothly after that either. I only put the car through one MOT and did one service too, as things started to very sour that year. Vehicles lose their shine and gain dents & rust if they get used, nothing wrong with that!

^^ I am glad that someone else is thinking what I was thinking.
It looks generally well-kept and the panels are straight. Shame the bumper's had a clonk, but it happens to many. I don't think it looks in bad nick at all, and at least it is clearly being used for what it was intended for and is being enjoyed. |
