Hi 4wd-junky,

I had the same problem, and I think I have temporarily found the fix. I wonder when your vehicle refuse to start, what does the cluster act like? Does the Temperate gauge go way up to the top or the cluster is kinda dim with the ABS light on?

That 2 symptoms happened to me before. My 10AS and the cluster are in good-clean condition when we were performing a check. At the end, We found out that the some of the ground wires at the main harness was loosen (behind the clock, behind center of the dash, behind the main air ducting pipes), we soldered those wires, and the problem has not come back (yet).

Hi Zidus

My cluster (IPAC) instruments and lights all worked as normal, ie. temp gauge was normal and ECM light always stayed off.
In my case the non starting was caused by 10AS signal only intermittently reaching the ECM as a result of a faulty IPAC.

hi im new to this. I have a landrover defender doing the exact same thing as what has been talked about on this post. my defender 2007 2.4 deiesel. it seems to be quite basic as there are no key fobs. only turns for a split second and then cuts out. I have done a few checks and its dropping power to the starter and after reading through this post I think it to do with the 10as not communicating to the ecm.

my question is how to I diagnose if it is the 10as or ecm or the ipac.

thanks in advance

The symptoms you described pointed to an immobiliser fault and by putting the shunt in now proves this. The issue is with the IPAC and short of replacing it there are other options which I will pm you. Again please keep the details of what you have done off an open forum, never know who is watching.

Hello there,
I am having the same problem with my Land Rover 90, turning over and then cutting out and not starting.
Getting code P1602
Noticed you mentioning a Shunt and a fault with the IPAC.
I would appreciate some help on sorting the problem as I am stuck at the moment.
Thank you

Just so everyone knows and if it is helpful in the future I have sorted the issue I believe.

It was a bad connection between the two bottom wires (the brown & white wire with the black terminal and the red and white wire with the red terminal) on the ignition switch. I tested the ignition switch and that was working fine. So sanded down the terminals and made the connectors tighter and used some contact cleaner to ensure a good connection. I did this for all the terminals on the ignition switch.

Then another fault was found which was the connection with the clocks (instrument cluster) was not very good so sorted this issue and it is now running fine.

Hope this helps someone out. Thumbs Up

Update on this, it seems if the external temperature is above 28 or so, i have trouble starting it, below that is seems to start fine. Are we looking at circuit boards with a hairline crack here expanding in the heat? Is it likely to be the immobiliser? It turnsover 4 times then nothing when the fault is there, its a new battery so enough volts. I still dont know how to isolate the immobiliser to rule it out.

Hi I have a 2.2 2013 puma , same problem you are talking about on this post, I’ve checked the fob and it’s sending rf out fine, diagnostics won’t communicate with immobiliser at all, red light stays on dash solid, it cranks for a couple of secs then nothing until you cycle ignition and same again, connections to 10as look clean and all looks dry, I can’t get the eka out the ecu due to no communication with 10as, is there a bypass you could help me with? Thanks in advance Paul

Hi Crosslanes, see this post also, mine turned out to be an incorrectly installed replacement ignition switch also OEM so not a good replacement part.......since Martin replaced it, no issues at all........

The bypass doesn't apply to the 2.2, the link isn't there to bypass.

Sounds like a "dead" 10AS to me, have you checked the fuses to it? Fuse 9 (permanent), Fuse 1 (ignition).

Do the doors lock/unlock and the indicators flash using the fob?  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

No the fob does nothing but have checked and the fob is transmitting a signal, the indicators don’t flash when door is looked either and i have power probed every fuse and all seem good, ( under drivers seat and below steering wheel) , diagnostics speak fine every module but the immobiliser module, thanks again
