Well good news, The paint didn't bloom!

So, the weekend saw a bit more being done,
Now the bulkhead is painted and done, I dropped the engine back in for good,
This morning I spent some time giving it a bit of a clean up.

I brought some alloy cleaner acid on EBay, which was supposed to clean oxidised alloy,
It was as good as a chocolate fire guard, so I resorted to brake cleaner, and elbow grease Rolling Eyes

Last year, when I tested the engine to see if it ran, I remembered I had a few issues with the carbs,
So I thought while at this stage it would be a good idea to have a poke around inside, and give them a clean,
Good job I did!
The float bowls were really manky, I'm surprised I ever got it to run in the first place?
a few new gaskets here and there and it all went back together, and looking a lot better.

I gave the hinges a coat of paint yesterday, so they went back on with some new mirrors, and stainless bolts.

Next week, I hope to get the exhaust made up,
Not sure what size bore pipe to go?
2" or 2.5"?
I want it to sound like it's got a V8 under the bonnet, but I don't want to get fed up with the noise either Laughing
I've been looking on EBay at exhaust kits, which come with a selection of bends, brackets, and a couple of silencers,
So I think it's the way to go?
I have the down pipes and the balance pipe from a stage 1, so should be reasonably straight forward.

If I have the time this week between cleaning and painting parts, I will try to start making an engine bay loom.

It's coming along nicely now, still need a few V8 bits, alternator bracket, and throttle linkage being important ones!
It has an alternator bracket on the N/S but it fouls the washer bottle, so I need to put it on the O/S.

A few photos....

Nice work there.
IMHO a 2.5" exhaust with one "straight through" muffler will be the way to go.

Bit more!

Yesterday was a day for sorting out the exhaust,
I brought a kit off EBay for reasonable money, which consisted of some lengths of 2.5" pipe, some bends, and a couple of straight through silencers.

About 3 hours of faffing around, measuring, cutting, re measuring, re cutting, welding, and I had something that resembled an exhaust that I was happy with!

I had to start from scratch in the end, the down pipes and the balance pipe were a million miles away from where I wanted the exhaust to run, so I started with 3" long pipes coming from either manifold, and making the rest up.

I decided on exiting the engine bay from the side, rather than straight back,
As it all sat a bit too low for my liking.

This morning, while everyone was out Christmas shopping, enjoying the festive spirit, I took Bek to the local Scrap yard to find some rad hoses that I can cut up so I can fit the rad. Laughing

This afternoon I got it running again just to hear what the exhaust sounds like?
I must say I'm quite pleased with the way it's sounding Mr. Green
There is no mistaking it's a V8 under the Bonnet.... Whistle Mr. Green

Great job Ian, you'll have to get a video for us.
Btw, you shouldn't have wasted your time fitting a silencer, it is a V8 remember! Whistle BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group
