Never seen one used in anger, but the video/description seems to show that the blanket actually drapes over the back of the engine, not fully covering the top. I think there might be a recommended max air temp, so summer here in the alps might require removal if a long drive or lots of hills are planned. But the rest of the year, and certainly winter, should be fine. I wonder if it will actually make it better in winter? Having said that, will add larger intercooler, hoses etc, in the future so will hopefully all aid heat management. Monsieur Le Grenadier

+1 Fatmat is what I installed too, and would definetley recommend. Made so much difference and the pricing isn't too bad. |

Silentcoat has done wonders for my 110. I've only done the bulkhead, front floor, battery box & a third of the roof but it's made a massive difference! You don't need to cover every inch, I've just dropped one on each panel and got loads of sheets left to use. I did use a heat gun which made it stick like the proverbial...

After doing some 1200km over the weekend I was just searching soundproofing as well. A lot of these solutions seem to be helpful at speed up to 70km/h or so. I am really looking to lower it at higher speeds of 120km/h. (I've a 2.2).
The noise killer kits, are they any good at deadening noise at higher speeds? |

I suppose it depends on the level of insulation put in. I'll be hopefully doing the following. Silent coat on all metal skin surfaces including full foot box, plus I'll remove the floor plates and add under as well as over. High Density Foam sound barrier on inside of door cards, all floor surfaces, throughout footwells , inside seat boxes and twin layer on roof. Carpet throughout Rubber floor mats SC and Sound barrier on all bulkheads New alcantara roof lining (potentially packed out with acoustic wool. Engine bonnet insulation, double layer plus foam trim to seal with wing tops, as mentioned in post above. Bell housing blanket Engine blanket Upgraded door seals Door realignment New front window seals New front window clamps Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Another vote for silent coat, just completed my 90 last weekend , reinstalled the carpet and test drove and I am impressed the noise has reduced

Is this a good deal? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silent-Coat-2mm-...1438.l2649
Can I cut the sheets to fit as needed or do they need to stay whole? 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW 1956 Series 1 Hard-top 1958 Series 1 Soft-top |

yes very easy to cut to suit i obviously cleaned the panels then i heated each floor panel or area with a heat gun, just a little heat and the silent coat pads stick better IMHO 2016 Discovery 4 1989 90 CSW V8 (fully rebuilt and running like a dream) 1996 defender tray back fully rebuilt/loaded for challenge events |
