Is putting your defender on the ramp to grease the prop shafts considered excessive use?
Usually do it on the floor but thought "why not?" 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I'd wash it on the ramp too, no bending down!

Well yesterday I had a very stark reminder. Change your wheel bearings in pairs!
On the way to the Defender Day at Pentille Castle ( got it this time Clayton ) My O/S/Front wheel bearing collapsed at speed (60mph) I replaced the N/S/Front bearings last week after it started to grumble, whilst at it I inspected the other 4 and there was no noise or play in the others. This is the result (skip to 3 minutes in) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BymT3xBHs...p=drivesdk No warning at all - If this had happened a couple of seconds later I would have been toast and if I had replaced the front bearings as a pair it wouldn't have happened at all. Thanks again to Clayton for the lift home - my defender got home 2 hours after I did. And its the first time I have called the AA in my 9 years of ownership 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Well I have started to strip the O/S front. Looking like a new stub axle is required

It is amazing that it gave no warning and no noise before hand as it looks pretty dry. Although I suppose the heat could have burnt off and remaining grease 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Well I changed the N/S a couple of weeks ago and checked the other 3 then. There was no indication of a problem when I checked which is the worrying part
I will remove all the hubs and re grease and internally inspect them all this weekend 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |
