^ Personal choice indeed, but if you deviate from standard then fault finding is all about documentation. Even if you fit the loom and go back to battery, this is the case. Do not see what waterproofing has to do with B+, original terminal at B+ (to battery) isn't waterproof either? Alternator is high and dry (warm), so normally no problem. If you go back to batterybox you have to make another hole in the box to go cable through... Whistle

When I ran my permanent live for spots I think I found enough room in a currently fitted grommet to fit through so no extra holes for that.
There is plenty as standard. Laughing $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

VeeTee - You'll be pleased to hear I've changed my mind and opted for the Alternator as you suggested.
Both for headlights and spots.
My main reason originally for going back to battery was to fit a centralised fuse box near it.
Fitting just two feeds fused in-line from the alternator would allow me to ditch any aux permanent live fuse box in the battery box completely.
I'm not likely to take any other feeds that I can think of to take from a perm live fuse box.
(.I would like a ignition switched one in the opposite seatbox though, but that's a different matter.)

And of course further reduced voltage drop without using huge gauge cable.

What earth points have others used? $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Cheers Thumbs Up
Pick up point at the alternator you get the highest voltage you can get for lights!
The alternator mounting itself is a good earthing point of course. Cheers, Vincent

Bit of an update, done the major fit of most of what I want in one day.

Alternator was indeed a pain to get at, didn't realise there was a cap on the nut which is a good thing.
Careful not to drop it!
Torque for it is 8NM.
Just enough room to add the two power feed eyelets, but it wouldn't add more due to thread length.

Day length was quite short so didn't really have time take pics or test actual voltage at headlight plugs.
But I will hopefully do this shortly.

For now I've still got the Crystals in until the next stage of fitting the Noldens.

I don't think I had huge gains to be had in voltage drop reduction but you can see the difference.
(Headlight lenses are dirty too!)

Drivers side is with Land Reziger loom plug fitted. (Left in photo.)
Passenger side with LR loom plug fitted. (Right in photo.)

I've also fitted a brand new spotlight loom with 6mm2 primary power & earth from again the Alternator whilst I was at it.
I have yet to check over and possibly have rewire my spots at their end, so for now the output is capped off from weather etc and for protection.
Will sort that ASAP when I can, yet more rain due. Rolling Eyes

Only very minor changes I made to the Land Reziger loom were a little coloured heatshrink for I.D. purposes and I swapped the combined Relay to 2 x Durite 40A relays with Diode.
A little more effort to fit though.
The same Relay also for the spotlights, so three in total.
On the Puma the Land Reziger loom Relays on the driver side, spotlight Relay on the passenger side.

Very pleased so far!

Thought I would post here as more appropriate to this thread and won't get lost in another thread I.e. 'What did you do in yours today'...

Shame your not nearer you would have mine done in minutes Thumbs Up

Not a bad job at all, just getting at the alternator is the tedious bit, and time consuming as the battery needs disconnecting as well and so on.
It won't really make much of a difference when I'm fitting regulated LED's but it will take the load off the switch.

I'm very pleased. Thumbs Up

And it was pretty damn cold. Whistle $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Tonight for the first time I went on a short drive as a test, I can definitely see the difference.
I'm yet to fit my LED's shortly but the loom certainly does make a big difference.

If anyone did choose to do exactly the same as me it's worth noting that the loom for both relays need pins 85 / 86 reversing to be: positive + 86 Earth - 85.

This is because of the Diode as it's polarity sensitive and if connected wrongly it will damage it.
With a normal Relay coil polarity doesn't matter, it does however with in-built Diode relays.

H'mm, was the pin layout as per Landreiziger loom? Would seem strange to me, as I know Martin he is a engineer from proffession, and according to DIN 72552 Standards 86 positive and 85 negative is the correct numbering...

Anyway, job well done, Cheers! Thumbs Up Cheers, Vincent

That's right that's standard, and the standard Relays are non Diode type so that is fine.
But the versions with Diode are opposite. If you look at the diagram on the top of the relays I've fitted you'll see what I mean.
The included Relay is perfectly fine, no problem at all.
I just liked the idea of the voltage spike suppresion of the relays with Diode I got.
I was wondering if there was a slight delay on trigger with them but there really isn't, if there is it must be milliseconds.

Thank-you for encouraging me to wire to the alternator, that was ineed a better option and not quite as much of a pain as I thought it may be.
I was trying to keep fuses in the battery box but there is little point, I have my inline fuse for my spots along with the Land Reziger loom fuses just behind the headlight.

All I did with the loom, was add a tiny bit of heatshrink to a part of it for I.d. Purposes and swap relays and swapping those pins over.
The harness it's self is great and perfect out of the box, just my own preference really.
But the whole thing out of the box is really nice quality.
AFAIK, the Boomslang version doesn't have Diode inclusive relays either.
Can anyone confirm?

In a nutshell, I'm delighted with it and the Land Reziger service. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

As you said you swapped the relay from Landreiziger with relays with built in diode, I am now curious how the pin numbering on the original Landreiziger relay was? Cheers, Vincent

Sorry I think I confused you, myself or both.

Standard is 85 Live 86 Earth.

I've swapped to 86 Live 85 Earth.

Swapping over is easy, just a case of a very small screwdriver to release the female spade tag in the connector and then bend it slightly out again once removed and reinsert and it's locked.

Out of the box it's perfect to use, in fact easier as there is just one mounting screw and both relays in one unit.
I just swapped mainly for the Diode, and of course to match my spotlight Relay.
Overkill a 40A Relay but will still reduce losses.

Thumbs Up $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Hmm, again more confusion... As I said before
