If you route your permanent live power feed back to the battery you can then if you have spots as well nicely wire into a Blue Sea fuse box inside the battery box.
So you can have headlights on one fused terminal and spots just below it, nice and neat. As at the moment I have spots only direct battery power fed I have just a 20A inline fuse. Think I went for 2.5mm or 3mm thinwall, overkill on current draw required but reduces voltage losses at headlights or spotlights end. I'd recommend threading through convoluted tube too for protection, then fit and forget. |

Ran Speaker EVO for more than 3 years. Great light. Changed back for a combination of reasons. 1. Never liked that on high beam there was a combo of LED main light plus a halogen aux 90mm light working. Despite many asking about it here, none of the LED manufacturers ever bothered about offering a LED replacement for the SVX aux high beam driving light. 2. A bit of a worry at the time that our Swiss "MOT" would not let pass the Speaker as they were obviously never specifically homologated for the Defender. Note - I just passed the tech inspection and think it would not have been an issue. 3. Most important reason is that I want to keep the truck as original as possible, so the cristal WIPAC are just that I think. And with the Landreiziger loom and better halogen bulbs the light production is good enough for me. When needed I can always also turn on my Hella Comet 550 front fogs to better illuminate the sides of the road. 4. Here in Geneva 90% of cars on the road have Xenon or LED headlights these days, so my Halogens now reinforce the classic status of my truck. Eric Before.... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Now... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge So, my front side is fully Halogen/incandescent bulbs again, except for the bumper DRL, but those go off completely once the sidelights get turned on, so don't light up ever in combo with the halogens. To the contrary the rear of the truck will be fully LED, that is once the Naka center brake light will become available and will be proven to look good. Thanks !!
Did not know about the halogen backup on the JW Speaker. Pity there is't a 7" HID projector type headlamp that would fit Defender without major modifications. Edit: Sorry - saw it referring to the additional SVX light. |

Does anyone have a photo of their Boomslang loom? I have a loom that was given to me as a gift and I'm pretty sure it is a Boomslang but would be good to compare and check wiring colours.
Click image to enlarge If anyone has any instructions that would be good to see also. Earth seems blue which seems a bit strange and the earth is a lower gauge than the power wires which I'd have thought would defeat the object. Usually you do have power and earthing the same gauge. Which side did you fit yours? My Spots relay is mounted OS. |

Tonight I ordered a loom and crystals from Paddock spares. When they arrive I can scan the instructions to you. http://www.paddockspares.com/boomslang-per...-loom.html If you want you could practice fitting mine to make sure your install goes ok? Deal |

Ho hum. I've got a good used Landreiziger loom, pair of Wipac Crystals, full set of RDX LED stop/tail, indicator and sidelamps, RDX LED flasher nit and a Mobile Centre flasher unit sat in a box amongst a variety of other bits and bobs doing nothing apart from waiting for me to get off my bum and post them, and the associated photos I took a couple of weeks ago, in the for sale in the classifieds here.
This is not an advert just a self reminder.... {Edit} Advert now live in the for sale section. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Stacey007 -
Deal, Thank-you. If you look at the loom you've bought and then compare to wire colours of mine you can see it's different. Something tells me the loom I have is wired wrongly. Blue should not be the earth and the gauge is too small. Also other wires are incorrectly fitted. Here is a better pic, mine: Click image to enlarge Your's being sold now: Click image to enlarge In the same orientation it's easier to see the difference, with the difficulty of messing with it and wire it wired wrongly probably best just to buy new instead. Chances are the sockets will break if I try to take them apart or be loose if re-fitted, so by the time I would replace bits and replace cable too I may as well just get new. The whole point of these looms is to be plug and play so something must have been up with this one! |

^^ Maybe it is one of the China copies? Cheap, but... You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Could well be, it's definitely not wired correctly or worth playing with.
These plugs and sockets don't take kindly to being taken apart once fitted, if you do manage to chances are afterwards they will be loose. What options are there? Is it just Boomslang and Landreziger or what ever its called? |

I currently run a driving light loom that activates my spots on full beam/flash. It takes a positive from the battery and plugs inline to the H4 connector to trip the relay and activate the spots, similar to this I guess:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/A-Bar-Spot-light...0Lv0UEJoHg If I wanted to run the boomslang loom, would it be best to do away with this? considering i'm essentially going to end up with a 3 way link of H4 connectors, or is there a loom that can incorporate full beam activated spots ? EDIT: May have answered my own question http://www.rayneautomotive.co.uk/land-rove...lamps.html |

Believe there is a similar product from Nakatanenga also - but do not have a link now to show. |

Tobz - Shouldn't really matter if your only taking a trigger feed tap. So long as connections are tight and secure there won't be a load on it.
My tap on main beam for spots relay is taken direct from headlight main beam cable soldered and properly jointed. |

As a matter of fact, I just found out Land Rover issued a Technical Bulletin on the subject of faulty headlight switch due to too high current (the document in Dutch is is LTB00467), the repair has even a genuine Land Rover Part No. LR030390. Interestingly, the Tech Bulletin says it concerns only VIN numbers 7A732615-BA412050 from years 2007-2011. I thought the problem (and construction of the switch) did not change after 2011? Interesting reading! Mines a late 07 so would fall in that bracket, however, hardly do any night driving so that may be why I've avoided avoided an issue.
When I last checked my headlight voltage a few years ago voltage was to be expected. However, I have heard of some people who have had about 10v at the headlight which is down at least 2v or so. None the less, as mentioned just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it won't eventually. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |
