Yeah had mine rebuilt, just because I could really. Happy enough with the gearbox it self but
not overly impressed by the slickshift Maybe because it is on effectively a new box but the change is quite notchy to the point of being difficult (especially 2nd and 4th) when the 'box is cold and improves slightly when warm. Before I had the slickshift (and before the box was rebuilt) the shift was excellent cold or warm. I can only assume that the slickshift is exaggerating the tightness of the rebuild? Loathed to remove it to find out though I specced it with disco V8 5th gear and uprated bearings all round (coupled with a 1.2 puma spec transfer box gives 30mph / 1000rpm same final drive as a 6 speed puma ) My old box was never noisy (unitl it started to fail) which this one isn't. Hopefully this one will last at least another 110k miles! My old box met a premature end when I accidentally filled it with ep90 (ep90 and mtf94 both in unmarked containers - lesson learnt!) Realised something was up as the gear change was terrible. Drained and refilled with the correct oil after about 500miles but the damage was done and it only lasted about 4000miles after that 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Forgot to mention that I haven't played around with the bias springs so that may improve things. In fact I think I might have found tomorrow's job 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Grafty - Surprised at your comments on the Slickshift. I think it's one of the best things I've done to mine and wish I had done it earlier. Perhaps your bias springs do need a bit of adjustment? Mine is a bit notchy into second when cold, but it always has been (the Slickshift makes this marginally worse because of the shortened throw, but it is marginal). Once warmed up though the Slickshift is a massive improvement across the board. Shifts are much more precise and the reduced movement makes driving a lot more comfortable. I don't think I'd want to go back to the standard R380 shift now. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

The shift on mine was precise before the slickshift. On mine the slickshift has the made it notchy which it want before. Don't get me wrong it isn't terrible, just isn't what I'd hoped for. Maybe I expected too much but the shift was definitely better before the rebuild.
a hat stand it is not 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton Last edited by grafty99 on 15th Jan 2017 8:05pm. That's the one! So far they have cost me exactly nothing just going to fabricate a pair and see how they turn out. I've always wanted a NAS rear step but they put the tow ball too high and I tow fairly regularly so not practical for me. Also don't want to spend bowler money if I fit them and decide I don't like them 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I liked the bowler steps aswell but not the price for the same reason as you because of the towbar height, so bought a pair of whitbread steps which are very similar and galvanised before power coating they were on offer for £75 plus postage at the time they are waiting to be fitted at the moment.
