Just completed a year with mine.
Although it gets used every day, it doesn't more than a couple of long trips a week. Done about 7k miles. Pretty consistent economy at 25-27mpg. Off road that obviously dips to around 15-18. My previous Td5 did considerably better in similar conditions but it was a 90 and not a 110. I was hoping the 6th gear would help more than it appears to. Re: limp mode. I've had several occasions where, after setting off I find it impossible to get above 50. If I stop and switch off and on again it is absolutely fine. No warning lights. Mentioned to the dealer and they can't trace anything - i.e. no fault codes. I wondered whether it might be an EGR problem: maybe more smoke on startup (or am I imagining it because I don't have cause to think about it until the problem has occurred after a couple of miles); loss of power... The EGR used to cause problems on other Defenders with similar symptoms and 50 is a bit quick for limp mode. Any thoughts? |

I've got my EGR semi-blanked off, basically it has a blanking plate in with a 15mm hole thus reducing the amount of gas recirculated. I have claimed 33>34mpg on many occassions which alot of people have questioned but I do 350 miles per week on A roads and motorway. I may have to start taking pictures of my fuel receipts and speedometer reading to 'try' and convince people! |

mine regularly sees 33 - 35 MPG
I had a VR6 Golf some 10 Years ago and it was widely acknowledged that units varied significantly in power and MPG consumption. DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN |

Not quite. People tend to EXAGERATE about their mpg-km/l, etc so it could have been either. We use liters from the metric or SI system, which I guess was created for idiots Last edited by MK on 16th Dec 2008 8:35pm. Edited 2 times in total |

Lie - thats quite strong, i have just believed people maybe work it out wrong or dont quite get the jist of the fuel, side
ie i sued about 1/4 tank and did 5000miles there i must have done..... mpg rather than actual fuel used Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Using our SI system and after 40.000 km with the right motor oil our 110 SW have a yield of 10 to 11 km/lt
thats in MPG 25.8 to 23.5. (1 KM/L = 2.35214583 MPG) We use to calculate the kms from the last fuel feed and the total volume feeded until the dispenser mechanism cut it automatically. So Im quite confident of this number. Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

I do exactly the same thing. Fill up to pump cut off and consistently get 10 -11 liters per 100 km.
