United Kingdom 1999 Defender 110 Td5 SW Caledonian Blue
Friday - collected the 110 after having the replacement BlackSheep x-member fitted.
Noted lack of rear side light - assumed a bulb.

Saturday - helped someone with their Chevy BelAir - needed a new starter motor so fitted a 6.5hp high torque one. After doing that played escort and followed the Chevy back to its new home. All good in the land of 5 Litre and some CC's V8

Sunday - Installed the new Gen LR towing electrics loom.
Started off well. Found the connector and connected up. Removed old scotch block connected loom.
Tested with a trailer board. All OK except for;
Drivers side tail light (and also on the trailer board)
Fog & Reverse lights

After much hunting discovered the following;

When the x-member had been removed the grinder went through 4 wires that go across the to the passenger side (between the tank and the back of the x-member)
Also when the original towing electrics had been put in, someone decided that a good idea would be to twist some wires together and cover in tape and put them back into the plastic loom covering.

When the work was done and the loom moved further back (now it exists just after the top spring seat)
The wires twisted together came apart thus stopping the rear stop light working - fixed this with solder and heat shrink.

Next onto the fog and reverse - turned out to be a duff / corroded connection.

6hrs later job done! but still need to attach the towing socket. Replacement x-member did not come with the hole for the plug so I am going to mount off the towbar bracket. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Removed rear prop and pumped grease into UJs. On end ok the other has full movement, but grease not getting to the furthest bearings from grease nipple. So got hold of some GKN UJs ready when theystart to cause issues.

Found a small weep from rear output seal on T/fer box so purchased a new one and replaced.

Then replaced the output seal on rear salisbury axle which has been leaking for some time. Again with Genuine seal.

Then refitted prop with new bolts and nuts and took for a test drive.

Thankfully job well done as no leaks after a good run Very Happy Thumbs Up

Drove 350 miles to see some flat coated retriever puppies in Ipswich.

Defender was brilliant and apart some rough patches on the A12, ride was smooth and comfortable.

I have been getting a load of jobs done to my 110 that I've been wanting to do for a while...

First of all I've installed my front and rear Anderson connector harness (from Goodwinch) to allow the use of my detachable winch set up at either end of the vehicle (or jump leads etc):

I also changed the wheels from the original Boosts to black 'Wolf' wheels (detailed more in the Wolf wheel thread about the balancing issues! Laughing ).

I also removed the Tomb Raider side steps in preparation for my rock siders arriving next week... The steps will be for sale in the For Sale section soon if anyone is interested.

Got the rear chassis primed and painted after having the x-member replaced. Looks better with a coat of black paint than bare metal.

MOT time tomorrow 1999 Defender TD5 110

Picked up the 110 from MOT - passed. One advisory - Oil leak (suspect this to be the half moon at the rear of the rocker cover) 1999 Defender TD5 110

I'm very happy with the performance of the Wipac Crystals, I've got Osram Night Breaker bulbs in as well to get the most out of them I'm sure you'll be happy with them.
