Hi,
I seem to recall when in lo.the revs were increased? Just moved def back n forth in low and revs are 800 rpm. could this be dodgy Hi low switch or clutch switch , both, either or neither? Thanks |

I was only moving back n forth on the drive (1st / reverse) and there was no increase in revs. it remained c799 - 804 revs.....methinks the switch might not be working.....
might also explain why sometimes in hi range I get a seemingly loss of action from the throttle ie perhaps the sensitivity disappears thinking it's in low range? the fact the revs aren't increasing would suggest there's a problem but can anyone suggest a more robust way of checking this? thank you. |

I thought this was part of the anti stall?
1st gear low ratio up a steep bank with no throttle input from the pedal it should toddle up at 800rpm, Mine does with a trailer full of logs anyway! |

Anti-stall works in all gears and doesn't alter engine speed, just torque delivery.
Idle jack works in low box 1st and reverse and increases engine speed when the clutch is in and there's no throttle pedal input. The throttle position mapping is desensitised in low box (less effect for the same pedal input). Idle jack and TPS mapping require input from (inter alia) the range select switch on the transfer box. Nanocom etc can read thd ECU input from the range select seitch. |

regarding throttle response, revs etc as I thought thanks.
just need to get someone with nanocom to confirm it's not getting a switch signal and then find out why? - something else |

Aaaahhh, now we understand why you are getting to more than 500 miles per tank. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Seriously now, the few times per year that I put my Puma 2.4 into low box (just to keep the mechanism working), the rpm at idle remains at 800, but as soon as I move the gearstick to 1st, the idle revs will immediately increase to 1000, maybe even slightly more and not fall back to 800 again until I put the gearstick back into neutral.

Stay out of low box if you want big MPG.
Theres only one way to get to go on holiday that's not in the slip stream of a Eddie Stobart lorry. |

Munch90 I suspect either your right or there was possibly an intermittent problem there that has now failed.
What progress over the last few days ; Battery earth New clutch Ultra gauge (perhaps??) Hi/ low switch Running a treat at the moment (and yes I've said this before but I have rectified some actual problems - not some possible problems) v happy |
