looking for a computer expert?
been trying to start using outlook again on my old pc. generally just use my blackberry but want to start using outlook again. ran the programme up and for some reason emails stopped coming through 3 years ago and I can't send any emails they just go into the out box. the only thing I can think of that may have changed in the 3 years is a new router but I'm sure that was in the last 2 years? even so I can't see anywhere in outlook where I might need to put new router related info? any suggestions - the router may have nothing to do with it? many thanks, |

Hi Catehram
Over the past couple of years some of the providers have changed the ports that email programs use for sending and receiving in addition to new security setting, best thing to do is look at the support pages for your email provider to check the settings you need to use Have a look here, might help http://www.filesaveas.com/emailsettings.html Cheers John 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon 1971 Bowler Tomcat 88 4.2 V8 Auto 2022 110 D250 XS Edition - Gone 2024 110 D250 X-Dynamic HSE Last edited by jomara on 26th Jan 2015 10:10pm. checked the password and that's ok.
I'm with talktalk and all is fine on my blackberry? I don't think the inbound or outbound details have changed? |

Try recreating the account in Outlook. It's usually very good at "discovering" the correct ports etc once you give it your email and password details.

Check: Outgoing port (SMTP) is on port 587 (Edit) Also, ensure you ticked the "my outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box" |

hmmm.
I'm possibly more confused now. it was previously on POP3 but as per the link above relating to talktalk I've set it to SMTP and then looking the other link above its suggests POP3 is correct.... needless to say I've still not got it working |

POP3 - is for downloading email messages
SMTP - is for sending email messages The default port for SMTP is 25 and for POP3 110(? that's from memory). If Talktalk use different ports then you will need to configure that within Outlook under your account seetings. HTH |

thanks James.
I've taken some drastic action. rather than just deleting the account I've deleted the PC. ! needed a new one anyway and have therefore very much started from scratch. I've got the email account now set up on my blackberry and laptop BUT emails seem to land sporadically on the laptop......I have to hit the 'send / receive' button half the time to kick start it - shouldn't it do it automatically all the time? thanks. |

Outlook, aka Hotmail etc. will update everytime its opened.
Start with trying to recover the old account. when you've done that ( i have aswell recently) it will take an age to sort its self out. Then set up the microsoft cloud and save all files etc to there. you are then truly mobile. |

thanks t1g up.
I've got all the old emails and if I mess about with the send / receive I get the lastest emails but for some reason it doesn't appear to do it automatically? I also go a couple of send failure messages but they only went to my blackberry? |
