Is it worth sticking a poll on this topic so you get an idea of numbers/interest.

Well done to our overseas friends lrMike and Wild Card 90
for joining in with zone30's idea... As Land Rover describe this as a 'Year of Celebrating the Defender' When should we try to do this... If production ends in December (unconfirmed as far as I know) is this the most 'symbolic time' to aim for, or is it potentially not the best time of year to 'encourage' a good turn out... Trying to find some 'justification' for a Summer Trip... Could the 16th June become 'Huey's Day' and so if this gets supported well in year 1, we could potentially repeat or build on this in following years... anyway... your thoughts http://www.birminghampost.co.uk/business/b...ar-8394054 http://www.birminghampost.co.uk/business/m...ve-8404226 SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

My wife is a schoolteacher so 16th June is inposdible for us
It should not stop you all for picking that date however as I presume others may have similar issues on other dates. I would personally prefer during summer vacation because of the chances of good weather. I wanted to start a poll on this topic for which event would be preferred but it's obvious that a Red Wharf Bay to Solihull drive is preferred and for those for whom this seems too far, a Solihull meet is preferred. I'm also under the impression international interest is picking up . Based on this, and the fact the UK is not a small country, I was thinking: would it not be possible for the days before and after that the more close by Defender owners could host some of those far-to-drive owners by allowing them to stay over a night or provide a camping spot. If thousand come near Solihull, there wont be many beds free in hotels and B&Bs in the region, and it provides a unique opportunity for people to meet each other. Before I start a poll on dates I prefer to wait on Defender-Stu's reply on his e-mail, because support from JLR would have quite an impact on this I think. It looks like it's getting more and more a reality and I want to already thank those who are taking real steps and investigation the possibilities to make it happen. |

16 June looks like a good suggestion. The fact that it is a Tuesday is unfortunate. However, with the amount of events that fill up the summer weekends, it might just be the better solution. I have posted a link to this thread on the German Blacklandy.de forum. They have a thread along the same lines and are also looking for the right date.
The weekend before is Le Mans (maybe not tooo many LRO´s there) and the weekend after is a LR event in Malvern, I believe. If Landy owners come from abroad, it may well fit in to combine Lode Lane with visiting another UK event. Stephen 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s, Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons |

Hello zone30
I agree. Land Rover We work backwards from seeing if Land Rover are interested. It may take a number of 'approaches' to establish this, as I would not assume the answers is no, if the first response to Defender-Stu is not 'wholly positive' or even if there is no response. The idea may (will) take some developing if Land Rover 'bite'. The core 'pitch' to them needs to be simple. Polling Day Let's see what days are suggested by Forum Members, and as you say, you can set up a poll. I still feel some 'desire' to try and chose a 'relevant day' if possible, but gaining good support is more important, and summer I agree is more appealing generally, again Land Rover may influence things here. For overseas visitors, (or any long distances involved) this will involve both time before and after in order to attend. Tribute Run If the Red Wharf Bay to Solihull idea is the event, I will stay in North Wales before 'the off' as this would be a good to opportunity meet a few of you... I like your ambition zone30... even thousand/s... Steering Committee Maybe there are a few of you out there that would be interested to meet up, in order to progress this... rather than trying to do the whole thing via Def2Net. Maybe a visit to Land Rover, if they support the idea, in order to have a 'face to face' meeting. Route Planning Various options clearly, but maybe take in some of the fantastic scenery in Mid Wales... Well, counting series - ninety-s and one-ten-s and defenders together, they build well over 1 million of them and if 70% are still running, 1000 out of 700,000 doesn't seem that far fetched... . Even if only 10% of them are close enough to reach the event location, 1000 does still sounds reasonable...

Totally on board! Could be emotional so I will guarantee to wet myself and start blubbing like I've won an oscar - especially if there's some documentary makers out there. I can already see the montage clips of LR owners getting up early to make the journey to Solihull and meeting others on the roads along the way.
Rather than a single starting point route, may I envisage a sort of "all roads lead to Lode Lane" event. I'm sure local groups can arrange suitable starting points if people want to go in convoy, and others can just get there via their own timing and routes. The last day/week of production would be ideal and there are plenty of sites that could start accommodating the massed Defenders and Series visitors - possibly if there is no event the 29,000 capacity NEC car park which charges £10 for the day?? |
