Replaced and all is well. Apparently not an easy job to do.


Have a new thermostat on order too, along with viscous fan and electric fan too. Sounds like my symptoms yeah, will replace one by one and see how it goes! Thanks for the tip Cheers, David

When you have the vehicle upto temp, switch off and lying under front feel the radiator . Warm or cold. If cold then thermostat. If warm then probably fan. LANDYWATCH

Tomorrow the viscous fan and the thermostat will be changed.
We will see what happens.

I hope that will solve my problem, if not I will be very upset with this failure Neutral

Both pieces already changed,

According to the Indy, the viscous appear to be the problem.
The new one looks like to blow more than the old one.

Just started the thermostat before, only to be halted by thunder & torrential rain...

Fingers crossed! If not it'll be Onto the viscous tomorrow...

Any tips on how to remove the viscous fan? Cheers, David

with a viscous spanner , yes there are special scanners for them , trouble is I can't remember what size it is , there are only two sizes

think 32 or 36 mm some scanners have both sizes on one spanner , halfords should do one and there not expensive
12.99 at halfords just looked and it's the double ended one so got both sizes

give spanner a sharp tap on other end with small hammer to undo , if you try doing it by hand the pulley normally just turns slipping on the belt

yea flipping things got a 32 and 36 sykes pickavant they always open up after a few goes, have more luck with a big chisel and hammer. Very Happy
might be a trade thing !! Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

yes that's the trade way , I've never had much luck with the spanners yes they open up after a few , but don't like telling someone to hit there car with a hammer and chesil !
if someone slips and drops the chisel and digs a hole in there rad I don't want them saying " you tw@t you told me to do it that way !"
prefer to explain safe proper way first Laughing

got one long long chesil and that's all it's used for !

Got the old thermostat off but not fitted the new one yet...

Tested the old one with hot water though, and it WASNT working... Hopefully that was it!

I've a suspicion with my thermostat - not sure it's doing it's job as it should at the moment. Are the coolant pipes rock hard all the time prior to changing and have they reduced in pressure afterwards? Possibly a bit too soon to ask you if you've not had chance for a road test.. Mine gets up to running temp (usually about 1/4 up the gauge) and when I check lately the pipes are pretty hard.
