If you can run xenons without consequence; I'd have the Crystal / Quad-Optics as some have suggested as well as proper ballasted xenons. They throw a ton more light than halogen bulbs, last 2-3x longer and are 5x cheaper then LED's. I've seen a setup exactly the same as I've mentioned and it puts the factory lights to shame.

As luck would have it, I had an old Td5 bulkhead loom so I chopped off the healdight switch plug, along with the old plug from my melted switch, and made the relay loom literally plug & play (apart from a separate earth for the relays)


should save on melted switches in future!

just to check that all puma defender are fitted with headlight relays now? - they are the r123 and r126 on the wiring diagram????

Martin, those relays are not the switch activated ones that people are talking about adding in this or the other two threads you've commented on. Also, the manual you've linked to is for a 300tdi, not a Puma. Darren

then linked diagram is not correct.

so the headlight relay in current defenders are dim/dip relay, not the on/off relay that we need?

The relay fitted as standard in the headlight circuit of Defenders is activated by the ignition feed and energises the main headlamp on/off switch. Its purpose is to turn off the headlights if you stop the engine.

The main headlight on/off switch and the dip/main beam switch both carry full headlight current, hence the failures, hence the many threads on the subject.
