I had it in the past with my old one, wasn't massively long before it started playing up and having issues and got replaced. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

Yes, I can back up on this.
It sounds like the EGR is starting to get stuck. Not really a problem unless it sticks open at idle as the engine will cut out and will be a pain to restart unless it closes again. The EGR is always opening and closing as you drive, but you shouldn't hear it. What you'll probably notice is the self clean is getting louder too. Fairly easy job to do apart from access is a bit tricky. Of course, you could do an EGR bypass (or locked shut in a Puma), but that's not my thing. I like to think I'm at least helping run cleaner. We have a tuning agent in Melbourne who can apply our EGR shut patch, or remap + EGR shut to your Defender.
You really should replace the faulty EGR valve first, which isn't that expensive to do, and then get the patch to prevent its re-occurrence. Regards, Gary. |

Thanks for the replies,
I suspected that it would be something that needed attention, however on the upside, it is also an excuse to get the remap done along with the EGR shut off that has been on my wish list for a while now. cheers Gary, will get in touch to discuss. I noticed sometimes when switching the engine off that the EGR cleaning cycle sounds like it is really struggling and it makes an awful squealing noise, then the next time it is its normal chukka chukka, anyway I have over the last month or so been hearing it whilst driving just like Braydog.
So yesterday I was passing my Dealer and it is in the process of being booked in, need to get things like this sorted as the warranty runs out in September Also not sure if its a coincidence since this has appeared, I'm sure I getting less miles to the gallon? Cheers |

If it's not functioning properly, then it could be screwing up the mixture, or rather using more fuel due to effectively having an air leak. Craig Rogers

The EGR's are becomming more of a problem on a daily basis, especially so on cars that do either short trips or ones that do more town style driving.
The gears insie them are only plastic and the other internals arnt much better to be honest, so as said here already the best way for a more permanent long term fix is blanking and EGR delete software. Regards Pete |

I only have the def for 2 months now and i had a major "surge" around 2000 rpm from rolling to trying to accelarate (in city driving) and i had the feeling you describe..so i pulled the (egr) plug and all is more than OK,apart from the check engine light |

With the law changing on emissions, I can possibly see, although not sure how they'd police it, the EGR becoming part of an MOT just like they are doing with the DPF.
Although a bit flaky in design (throughout the automotive industry), it's there for a reason. Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |
