There is a 2 way relay, has 5 contacts that will switch from one circuit to another. You have main power in going to DRL. So DRL's are on when power is applied. When side lights are switched on then relay switches power to circuit 2 which is connected to NOTHING. So DRL come ON with ignition and go OFF with sidelights. Simple. I presume if you just wanted them to dim with sidelights then a suitable resistance in Circuit 2 and connect to DRL would do the job. Ignition ON - Circuit 1 active - Full power to DRL. Sidelighta active - Circuit 2 active with resistance - 1/2 power to DRL.
I just have them switch off with sidelights on.Passed it's MOT with no problem. Tester was interested as to how it was set up. LANDYWATCH Neighbourhood Watch for Land Rover Owners http://www.landywatch.co.uk/smf2/index.php |

You may be able to help me?
I've fitted my DRLs as you can see and would just like to be able to dim them when a circuit comes on (sidelights in this case) Does an LED dimming relay exist? I don't want the voltage sensing bit though... Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

(Re-)read Go Beyonds' reply - this the correct way to wire them in with auto on/off AND your requirement to turn them off manually. Cheers, Vincent
