Puma Engine Issues
Hi

I have a 2011 puma with 2.4tdci. 67k kms.

I have two issues with the engine as follows.

When accelerating after a period of low power demand I get a sort of squeal noise, like a slipping belt. It stops if I reduce throttle a bit. Leaking manifold or turbo actuator?

The second is 4 times so far no throttle response. The engine just has no power. It does not cut out and restarting it a few times restores power.

A diagnostic check reveals brake switch fault, and injector leak. The injector leak was not specific to any injector. There is not fuel or residue under the engine cover or elsewhere. The checks also revealed that at the time the accelerator pedal was sending full signal.

The fuel filter and air filter where changed 2500kms ago. I used standyne fuel filter and allmakes air filter. 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

The squealing noise is most probably a leak from the pipe from turbo to intercooler. Check for abrasion damage from the steering components (a common problem with the 2.4).

Have a read of this post I did on another forum, (saves me writing it all out again. Embarassed )

http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defen...turbo.html

It could very well be a leaking boost hose but does the squeeling coincide with boost demand and what psi does the squeeling start at??

HTH. Thumbs Up

The squeal noise is when I want to accelerate. So I guess when I want an increase in boost. Don't have boost gauge so don't know what PSI. At full speed there is no noise. 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

Most diagnostic tools allow the monitoring of live data which will include the boost psi. Thumbs Up

while on engine issues, anyone got any idea what could cause this?

its a 2010 2.4, 48k miles when like overtaking in 5th / 6th gear you put your foot down and the car will start to accelerate then 3-4 seconds after the engine looses all power, then picks up again... goes on and off like this

What is the engine revs and vehicle speed when this happens? Has the speed limiter been removed through a remap?

Sounds to me the exact symptoms of you hitting the limiter and/or the engine is 'overboosting' another symptom I had with my old remap, ultimately you will need a diagnostic run/fault reader to see exactly what's going on. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

I may have solved this problem....

The engine lost power again. I stopped with the engine running and opened the bonnet. I was looking at the electrical connectors and checking they were fitted correctly and secure. When I touched the one on the front of the fuel rail the engine hiccuped. When I touched it again it hiccuped again. I switched the engine off and unplugged the connector and it looked ok but was under tension from the loom. I adjusted the loom slightly so the connector was not under tension and the problem has yet to re-occur. I also slightly adjusted one of the female connectors in the plug as it did not look like it was making as good a connection as the other connectors.

Is it likely that this connector being loose could give me the symptoms previously described? 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP
