I changed 2 weeks ago to the Nolden LED headlights , you can't compare them with anthing else .

Having read this thread I'm just going to order a pair of Wipac crystals. On the bulb front I'm going to go for Osram Night Breaker Plus bulbs based on this recent bulb test

Just use a bit of black tape to cover the up-swept part of the dip pattern on the front of the lamp unit and you will be fine. |

And with regard to this topic. On any pre puma defender you will never see the full potential of any lighting upgrade until you upgrade the wiring. It is a simple DIY job for most people and will make even your bog standard lights work better than you ever thought possible. IMHO it should always be the first upgrade to the lighting and not the last.

Which bulb is now generally classed as the best, I have Philips Extreme in mine. Very good but I find the cut off point of the light is not great but that might be alignment $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Sort of makes sense, but you are the first to suggest this .. upgrade to what spec wire (and why is TD5 wire inadequate?) Thanks for the note about simple masking tape. Sold the much modified 110 2.8, in Oz Brought the 90 home from Switzerland ... |

Your UK vehicle will definitely need modification: if standard LR headlamps, a bit of Fablon-type sticky cut to shape as suggested above definitely does the trick, if you’ve high-intensity, i.e. high-heat jobbies, I wouldn’t risk adhesive damaging the plastic lenses. One would hope that a BMW’s lights wouldn’t be silly enough to dip to the right and blind UK drivers… European cars can mostly be switched to dip from one side to the other, or dip up and down. But “why should we bother to change our headlamps, the Frogs don’t when they come over here” sells a lot more copies of the Daily Mail. Peter |

Brendan: how do you find the JW lights compared to the Noldens? This is on just those being the light source (ie not with other added spotlights etc)

Hi Diablo, both Barbara and I prefer the Noldens over the JW Speaker. We have a set of each fitted to our two company Land Rovers.
When it comes to main beam there is a big difference between the Noldens with its greater range and light output over the Speakers. Also the Noldens are better on dip beam. We are not tied to any light manufacturer and if we thought there was any other manufacturer as good as the Noldens we would try them out first on our own vehicles. So personally I would recommend Noldens over the Speakers 8700. OK the Noldens do cost a bit more then the JW Speaker 8700, however the greater IP rating of 6K9K over IP67 and the greater light output is worth the extra money. Brendan |

Thanks. I'm yet to get approval from the other half (that'll be fun), and these are the two I'm looking at as it seems they are fairly similar, usually the Noldens being a bit better in reivews.
Though I do quite like the look of the JWs, which is prob part of the reason for keeping them as an option. |

Play the safety card......she would'nt want you hurt driving on a cold wet rainy night when for the cost of a couple of lights you would get home all warm and safe BM52
