Some officious garages won't fit them to 7 x 16, so best ask before hand Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

265/75 will go onto a 7" rim (Boost) with no problems. But you have to realise that they will not sit as tall as the origional 235/85s

285/75s have been put onto 7" rims even though it isn't recomended....only thing I would be carefull of is if your insurance company or police went down that road after an accident (they are clamping down on LRs after the Gresham incident).

Spacers- anything bigger than the 235/85s on standard offset and you will need them....but if you are getting aftermarket wheels they will more than likely already have a 25-30mm offset so no spacers needed.

I run 285/75/16 on Tx rims which have a 30mm offset and on standard suspension and on full axle twister the rears just kiss the arches. I have had no problems with them- considering 1" extended stops to counteract this but since no damage is caused I will probably never get round to it.

Fitting shouldn't be a problem, a good friend owns a recovery garage with a tyre centre, so shouldn't get any advice unless asked for.

Smile

No-one seems to know of/mentioned any problems after having 285's fitted to 7's though, have they? They're not going to get too much abuse anyway.

*edit - Cheers, Glyn, I'm considering the 30mm spacer option aswell. Waiting to hear about some at the moment. Any particular make I should look out for, or any particular material, etc? Mark

Try and get the spacers with the center wheel alignment on them as people have had issues with wheel vibration as the wheel dos not sit right Thumbs Up

Muddy mark, thanks for the Pm, my 30mm spacers for sale are top quality with the hubcentric design Thumbs Up
I have wound my lock stops right in and you get a great turning circle, they do rub slightly on full lock but nothing to worry about, i just backed off a touch when required.

I have run 285s on boosts for ages and never had a problem. You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things

Just to confuse matter and opinions, spoke to silverline today was set on what i was going to get and i was advised i would need a lift the vehicle to run 285 as these would foul Rolling Eyes He has advised go 265 then no lift and no spacers using modulars Banging Head

I am getting confused. I know if I use the boosts I need spacers (thanx glyn) but thought the 285 on modulars would be fine Question Exclamation

I think they are being extra safe. I guess it will depend on the tyres too. Ifit comes to the worst just sticking a set of extended bump stops will prevent fouling......but jut look around the site and you will see many running 285s with no problems and even 33x12.5 which are even bigger!!

Getting 265s and then getting a lift followed by 285s and you will end up being Steve's mini-me

You dont need spacers on modulars Tony, they have a big off set as standard...i.e the wheels are further out from the hubs than boosts....you dont need a lift either as you have heavy duty springs on the back of a utility Thumbs Up

Glynne is right, ive spent a bloody fortune messin about...get the 285s on modulars and see how you get on..you may only have a slight chance of fouling on maximum articulation which wont be that often.

If you do then a set of springs is a lot cheaper than another set of tyres Shocked You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things
