Your welcome. 1) Yes you will indeed. You may also need a pair of Kenwood radio removal keys (for the new one) and also a pair of ISO Single DIN round removal keys for the LR original unit. (Halfords do them) 2) Good man. ![]() ![]() β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

Thanks for all the replies. I have now ordered the kit as listed by Steve. One more stupid question though. If I mount my reversing camera up beside the rear washer jet, what is the best way to run the cable to the HU? I assume I will have to drill a small hole or use the one for the washer jet but then run the cable in the head lining which I'm guessing is easy to get down? Do I then run the cable down one of the windscreen A pillars and how do I get it into the back of the HU? |

Yes Jim, you will have to drill a hole for the camera and then route the cables under the h/lining. The clips should prise out, but if they are old may split so might pay to have some spares to hand . About £3 iirc from someone like defender bits for a pkt 10. Then down the a post. Iirc the electrics for rear washer already come down the passenger side, and if you go that side, access is relatively easy. You can take of the speaker pod, (4/5screw) and then pull down and out and it should pop off. It has a couple of locating dowls that can be a faff. Acces to behind the stereo is easy and straight. There is a void that the speaker wires run down, so you camera wire will fit easy. I have a picture somewhere I think if you need it.

^^^^ Couldn't have said better myself. Bear in mind this is being fitted to a Puma though and not a TD5 so not sure if there is much difference in the dash area. Can't comment as I've never owned a TD5. But as above I'd do the same. On the little plastic strips on the A pillar there is two retaining screws these simply come out and the strip is off the camera cable can go down behind there and simply re-fit the strip. Providing the cable isn't a large gauge it won't be an Issue. Ideal spot to run the "Alarm antenna" mod too. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ

Never had a puma Steve, sorry I thought it was a Td5. Reading back it's Chocolate that has a Td5!

There is plenty of room there on the Puma for taking that route with a cable. Down the pillar there's probably about enough room for a 4 gauge not that that will ever be needed. And behind the dash there's plenty of room for cables. Either side of the centre dash there is various "voids" so it's a good solution to route it that way.

Having read through this thread there seems to be a wealth of knowledge relating to I.C.E. ( I was going say radio but that's now old fashioned) and Land Rovers.
Having recently purchased a 2008 100, I'm not happy with the fitted system which is a JVC and bears no resemblance to the handbook. Did Land Rover stop fitting there own and instead fit other makes? I want to change the current radio as that's all it is and dipping into the wealth of knowledge what system and speakers would be a direct replacement for those already installed. S.H.M.B.O. will not let me start chopping holes in doors and fascia? The last time I installed a radio (that's all we had then) it cost £35.00 and that included cables and speakers. |

Sounds like you have an aftermarket headunit. It all depends on what you want or expect Guessing yours is a puma so you should already have tweeters in the dash?.
Speakers are 100mm and as long as they are not too deep most aftermarkets fit direct plug and play. In all honesty if I was changing my H/unit I would be looking towards DAB as that is the future. most switch between DAB and FM should the signal become weak. Davew on here has several JVC DAB units and swears by them. What else do you require :- I phone compatibility , Integrated Bluetooth(Hands free calling) USB ?? The world is your oyster- A half decent unit will start at £100+ upwards, speakers £30+ a pair. The wiring I'm guessing should all be there front and rear. |

Basically make a list of what you'd like to have and like to use from it and then go from there and have a lookon the market.
Funniest thing is a lot of people on here complain about the lack of modern features of the Defender and how dated they can be yet if they had all the mod cons they wouldn't know how to "turn the wireless on" much less understanding BT and Amp wiring and crossovers and so on. Maybe it's just an age thing. ![]() β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |
